Tricycle Price in Nigeria 2026: Passenger, Cargo & Electric

“Tricycle” covers more than the yellow keke you flag down at the bus stop. Nigerian buyers now choose between passenger kekes, open-back cargo tricycles for traders and farmers, CNG-ready models, and a growing number of battery-electric three-wheelers. Each type has its own price band and its own best use.

The big picture: the cheapest way into a new three-wheeler in 2026 is a Chinese petrol cargo tricycle at about ₦2.35m–₦3m. Branded Indian passenger kekes (Bajaj, TVS) cost around ₦1m more. Electric passenger tricycles cost more again upfront, but they do not use petrol.

Passenger tricycles: Bajaj RE and TVS King

The Bajaj RE is still the most common keke in Nigeria. In September 2026, brand-new 2024–2026 Bajaj RE units were listed at ₦3,800,000–₦3,950,000 in Lagos and Abuja, and at ₦4,300,000 in Abia. Bajaj’s own spec sheet for the RE 4S petrol model (Kenyan market) lists a 199cc engine, 7.6 kW, 17 Nm of torque and an 8-litre tank. Nigerian units may differ slightly, so confirm the specification with your dealer.

TVS is the main alternative. A January 2026 dealer price guide lists four TVS three-wheelers, all with a 199.26cc liquid-cooled four-stroke engine:

• TVS King Deluxe: ₦3.7m–₦4.0m; 6.5 kW; top speed around 65 km/h
• TVS King Deluxe Plus iTouch: ₦3.6m–₦4.0m; 7.5 kW; integrated starter generator for quieter starts
• TVS King Deluxe CNG: ₦4.0m–₦4.2m; runs on compressed natural gas
• TVS King Kargo: ₦3.7m–₦4.0m; the cargo version (see below)

How much prices have risen: in January 2025, Legit.ng reported that operators were paying about ₦3.5m to buy a keke outright, against about ₦600,000 five years earlier. Hire-purchase deals had climbed to around ₦6m. The paper linked the rise to economic hardship and the removal of the fuel subsidy in 2023.

Cargo tricycles: prices and uses

Cargo tricycles carry a flatbed or box in place of the passenger cabin. Traders use them to move water, gas cylinders, drinks, cement and farm produce between market, warehouse and shop.

• Chinese 200cc cargo tricycles are the most common new cargo stock. September 2026 listings included the Supra Mars 200cc at ₦2,700,000–₦2,750,000, the Kainiu 200cc at ₦2,770,000, the Super Bros SM200cc at ₦3,000,000, and a range of unbranded petrol cargo units at ₦2,350,000–₦3,500,000. Most were listed in Lagos (Ikeja, Yaba, Ojo, Lagos Island).
• TVS King Kargo: ₦3.7m–₦4.0m new according to the January 2026 dealer guide. On Jiji, used 2022–2024 units sold for ₦1.35m–₦1.9m. One 2025 unit was advertised as new in Ibadan at ₦2,000,000, well below the dealer range. Treat a price like that with caution until you have inspected the tricycle and its papers.
• Daylong DL150-KT cargo builds: listed at ₦2.4m–₦2.8m and described by sellers as heavy-duty tricycles for farms and loads. Daylong’s official three-wheeler range also includes the Keke-Marwa, rated for a 400 kg maximum load with a 60 km/h top speed.

Which cargo tricycle suits you? If you run a fleet and want a widely recognised brand with dealer support, a branded Indian cargo tricycle may be worth the premium. If you are buying one unit for heavy, short-distance loads, a 200cc Chinese cargo tricycle gives you more load for less money. Ask the dealer for the rated payload in kilograms and check that the chassis and suspension are built for it.

Electric and CNG tricycles

High petrol prices are pushing buyers towards alternatives. Petrol was selling for ₦1,350 a litre at MRS stations in Lagos on 27 September 2026, according to Vanguard.

• Electric passenger tricycles: the Tula Motto full-electric 8-seater was listed new at ₦4,950,000 in Lekki, Lagos, in September 2026. That is more than a new Bajaj RE upfront, but it needs no petrol.
• Small electric utility tricycles: an EVAXIN electric cargo unit was listed at ₦1,540,000 and a generic 3-wheel electric tricycle at ₦1,600,000. These are lighter vehicles for short trips, not replacements for a full keke.
• CNG tricycles: the TVS King Deluxe CNG costs ₦4.0m–₦4.2m according to the January 2026 guide. It only makes sense if you can reliably refill at a CNG station on or near your route.
• Petrol/CNG dual-fuel cargo units: one was listed at ₦2,500,000 in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

Before you buy electric, ask: What battery chemistry and capacity does it have? What is the real-world range with a full load? How long does charging take, and does it charge from a normal socket? Used tricycle prices in Nigeria

Used prices depend on the year, the engine’s condition and, above all, the papers. These are the ranges we found in September 2026:

What affects tricycle prices in Nigeria

1. Brand and origin. Indian brands (Bajaj, TVS) cost more than most Chinese cargo tricycles on current listings. Before you decide, compare how easy parts are to find where you live and what used units of each brand sell for.
2. Type. Passenger cabin, cargo bed and electric drivetrain each change the price. Electric passenger models are currently the most expensive.
3. Exchange rate and import costs. Tricycles are imported whole or as kits, so duty, clearing and the naira rate feed straight into dealer prices.
4. Fuel prices. Pricier petrol raises demand for CNG and electric models, and it changes how much a used petrol keke can earn.
5. Location. Lagos has the most new-stock listings. In September 2026, Abuja and Kano had many of the cheapest used Bajaj units.
6. Payment method. Hire purchase costs far more in total than paying outright. Legit.ng reported ₦6m hire-purchase deals against ₦3.5m outright in January 2025.

Worked example: cash vs hire purchase

Using the Legit.ng figures from January 2025: paying ₦6m through hire purchase for a keke that costs ₦3.5m outright means about ₦2.5m more in total, roughly 71% extra. Before you sign, ask the hire-purchase provider for the total amount payable, the daily or weekly remittance, and what happens if the tricycle breaks down. Get all of it in writing.

Buying checklist and how to avoid scams

1. Decide the job first: passengers, cargo or short estate runs. Then pick the type.
2. Check local rules. States and LGAs can restrict where commercial tricycles operate. Before you invest, confirm with your state transport authority or LGA that your route is allowed.
3. Match the numbers. The engine and chassis numbers on the tricycle must match the invoice, customs papers (for imported units) and registration.
4. Test it loaded. Drive it with passengers or a realistic load. Check braking, steering play, clutch and reverse gear.
5. For used units, inspect the chassis for rust and welding, the shock absorbers, tyres, the canopy or cargo bed, and look for smoke from the exhaust.
6. Get the warranty in writing. Some Bajaj RE dealers advertise a 6-month engine warranty. Ask exactly what it covers.

Red flags

• A “brand-new Bajaj RE” at far below ₦3.8m, or a new TVS King at around ₦2m.
• Requests for a deposit, “clearing fee” or “delivery fee” before you have inspected the tricycle.
• No original receipt, or papers in a different name from the seller’s.
