Wigmore Trading is a leading supplier of chemicals, fertilizers, and other intermediates to the manufacturers of finished goods in East Africa. We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Buyer – Vinyl Chloride Polymers. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work in an exciting and fast-paced environment, with lots of opportunity for growth and development. This role will report directly to the Head of Chemicals and involve sourcing raw materials from local suppliers, negotiating prices and terms, monitoring market trends, preparing weekly reports on available supply and demand data, developing long-term contracts with vendors where necessary, creating forecast models for price variations based on market conditions, and monitoring inventory levels periodically.

Responsibilities

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing raw materials from local suppliers, negotiating prices and terms, monitoring market trends, preparing weekly reports on available supply and demand data, developing long-term contracts with vendors where necessary, creating forecast models for price variations based on market conditions, and monitoring inventory levels periodically. You will be expected to maintain good relationships with vendors and clients alike by keeping them informed of market trends and any changes to the supply chain that may affect them. You will also be expected to monitor the market and be prepared to take action when shifting conditions warrant it.

Weekly Market Review

A major part of this position is monitoring the market to ensure that supply and demand is in line with expectations. This is done on a weekly basis by reviewing data from a number of relevant sources. Below are a few examples of the data sources that you will review. – Price Indices: These are indices that measure the average price of a given product or commodity. They are good indicators of current supply and demand conditions. – Trade publications: There are many publications that focus on the chemical industry. Some of them may have regular articles on supply and demand trends. – Industrial blogs: The internet is an excellent place to find the latest trends in the chemical industry. There are many blogs written by industry experts that can provide valuable insights.

Sourcing and Contract Negotiation

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing vinyl chloride polymers from local suppliers. This is an important part of your job and will require you to work closely with other team members, such as Sales, Finance, and Quality Assurance, to find the best possible suppliers for your company. You will be expected to review the current prices of vinyl chloride polymers in the market and create a shortlist of potential suppliers based on price, reputation, and quality of service. You will then have to reach out to those suppliers and negotiate prices and terms that are appropriate for your company’s situation. This may include product specifications, delivery terms, payment terms, and any other details that are relevant to the situation.

Managing Inventory

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for monitoring the inventory levels of vinyl chloride polymers and making sure that they are at an appropriate level. This is an important part of your job and will require you to work closely with other team members, such as Sales, Finance, and Quality Assurance. You will be expected to monitor the sales of vinyl chloride polymers and their associated costs to determine their net profit. The sales data will tell you how much vinyl chloride polymers are being sold, while the costs data will tell you how much it costs to produce the vinyl chloride polymers. Once you have those two figures, you can calculate the profit margin and see if it is within the expected range. You can then compare that data to the inventory levels and see if any adjustments need to be made.

Monitor Market Trends

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for monitoring current market trends to see if they are in line with expectations. This is an important part of your job and will require you to work closely with other team members, such as Sales, Finance, and Quality Assurance. You will be expected to monitor indices and trade publications to get an idea of current supply and demand conditions and see how they compare to expectations. If there are any significant deviations, you will need to investigate the reasons behind them and decide what to do next.

Develop Forecast Models

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for developing forecast models to get a better idea of expected supply and demand and help you make better purchasing decisions. This is an important part of your job and will require you to work closely with other team members, such as Sales, Finance, and Quality Assurance. You will be expected to monitor indices and trade publications to get an idea of current supply and demand conditions and see how they compare to expectations. You will then use that data to create forecast models that can help you predict future conditions with increased accuracy.

Conclusion

As you can see, being a Buyer for a chemical company can be an exciting and rewarding job. It is a position that requires you to be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
