How To Buy Wine From South Africa And Import It To Your Country

People love South African wine and are willing to pay a premium for it. But with the current trade restrictions, it’s hard for them to get it. After all, how many people can go on vacation to South Africa just to buy some local wine? Not many. The good news is that you don’t need to take an expensive trip or spend months learning the ins and outs of exporting a product from South Africa. You just need to know where to look. If you want to buy wine directly from South Africa as an end consumer, there are several online stores that will sell you that specific bottle without needing any further approval or documentation beyond what’s required when buying alcohol in your own country. If you want to import wine from there specifically as a business owner, things get a little bit trickier but not impossible by any means.

Importing Wine As A Consumer

If you just want to buy a case of wine and ship it home, you don’t need to worry about much other than the cost. It’s a bit more difficult to find some of the more obscure brands due to supply issues at times, but most of the major brands can be found online with relative ease. This method isn’t ideal if you want to resell the wine, however, because most of these businesses will ask you to prove that you are an actual wine dealer and that you have the proper licenses in your country. If you can provide this information, you can often get a 10%-30% discount on the price of the wine. And if you have a large order, you can negotiate for even lower prices.

The Basics Of Importing Wine

There are a few things you need to know about importing wine before you start looking for vendors. First, you need to know the type of wine you want to import. There are currently four major types of wine being made in South Africa: Dry red, Dry white, Sweet red, and Sweet white. The dry varieties are aged in oak barrels while the sweet varieties are aged in stainless steel containers. Dry reds are made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes while the dry whites are made from Chardonnay grapes. Sweet reds are made from Pinotage grapes while the sweet whites are made from Shiraz grapes. Next, you need to know the ABV (alcohol by volume) of the wine you want to import. The ranges are as follows: Below 10% – Dry, 10%-12% – Semi-Sweet, 12%-14% – Sweet, and above 14% – Extra Sweet. This will help you to pick the best wines to import. Finally, you need to know the price range you want to import. This will help you to find the best brands to order.

Importing Wine For Businesses Or Entrepreneurs

If you want to import wine for resale in your country, you will have to jump through a few extra hoops. First, you need to find an importer. There are a few ways to go about this. First, you can contact the major wine distributors in your country and ask them if they have any importers working in South Africa. If not, they might have some leads for you. Another option is to use an online search engine (like Google) to find importers and distributors of South African wine in your country. Once you’ve found them, ask them if they can help you find a vendor in South Africa. If they can’t help you find one, they might be able to sell you the wine directly.
