What are the Types of Mangoes in Mexico?

Mexico is known for its sweet and delicious mangos, a fruit that can be found in many different variations throughout the country. From the deep-red, glossy specimens found in the State of Michoacan to the soft, yellow-hued mangoes of Jalisco, Mexico has a variety of mangos for everyone to enjoy. Here are three types of mangos you may encounter while traveling through Mexico:

1) The Red Mangoes of Michoacan – Referred to as pepitas de chile in Spanish, these luscious red mangos are rich in flavor and used in various dishes throughout Michoacan. Look for them at roadside stands and markets or try them cooked into a simple dish like huevos con pepitas de chile (eggs with chili peppers).

2) The Yellow Mangoes of Jalisco – Known as camotes in Spanish, these juicy fruits are perfect for eating fresh or using in recipes like camote en salsa (mango salsa). You can also find yellow mangoes canned or frozen.

3) The Green Mangoes of Yucatan – Often called jumilla in Spanish, these emerald green fruits are tart but sweet and make an excellent snack or addition to any dessert recipe. They’re also used to make some unique tequila cocktails.

Where are Mangoes grown in Mexico?

Mexico is the largest producer of mangos in the world. The country has more than 1,500 hectares of mango orchards, with over 500 different cultivars. Mangoes are grown in six states: Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato and Michoacán. Mexico’s tropical climate is ideal for growing mangos; they are not subject to the cold weather that can damage their fruit.

Mangoes are generally picked when they reach a certain size and color. They are then shipped to markets throughout Mexico and abroad. Wigmore Trading is one company that specializes in importing Mexican mangos.

The History of Mexican Mangoes

Mexican mangos are a type of tropical fruit that are grown in Central America and Mexico. The history of Mexican mangos can be traced back to the Aztec Empire. During the Aztec Empire, mangoes were used as a form of currency. The Aztecs believed that the juice from the mango skin helped to keep them healthy. Mexican mangos were also used in religious ceremonies. Today, Mexican mangos are popular commodities in Mexico and Central America.

What are the Different Types of Mexican Mangoes?

There are many different types of mangoes grown in Mexico – some fruity, some tart, and some sweet. Here are four of the most popular types:

• Chúndaro: A medium-sized, green mango with a sweet flavor and soft texture.

• Muscatel: A large, golden-yellow mango with a tart flavor and firm texture.

• Pintos: Small, red mangoes that have a sweet flavor and firm texture.

• Tamarindo: A small, dark-green fruit with a tart taste and soft texture.

How to Taste and Select Mangoes

When it comes to selecting and tasting mangos, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For one, look for mangos that are firm and have a smooth surface. They should also be brightly colored with a deep hue, and they should give slightly when pressed between your fingers. Avoid mangos that are soft or mushy, as these will likely not be of high quality. When buying mangos in bulk, it is best to sample the fruit first to make sure it meets your standards.
