Lagos to Abeokuta is how many hours?
With a clear road, the drive takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. Rome2rio gives 1 hour 33 minutes for about 61.7 miles (roughly 99 km). As the crow flies the two cities are about 78 km apart, but no road runs that directly.
In practice the time depends mostly on how long it takes to get out of Lagos:
- From Ikeja, Ojota or Berger, early morning or at weekends: around 1½ hours.
- Weekday rush hour (roughly 06:30–10:00 and 16:00–20:00): traffic around Berger, Kara, Mowe and the Sango/Toll Gate axis can push the trip to 2–3 hours.
- From the Island or Lekki: add the time it takes to cross to the Mainland.
The train takes a predictable 1½ hours. The 08:00 from Lagos reaches Abeokuta at 09:31 on weekdays, whatever the traffic is doing on the expressway.
How much is Lagos to Abeokuta by road?
In February 2026, The Guardian reported that Lagos–Abeokuta road fares had risen to ₦3,500–₦4,000, and as high as ₦5,000 during festive seasons, compared with about ₦1,500 before the fuel subsidy was removed. Petrol prices rose again in September 2026, so expect fares towards the top of that range, and check at the park.
Where to board in Lagos
Buses for Abeokuta leave from several parks, including Ojota, Ketu and Berger, Oshodi, and the parks along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway at Abule Egba and Sango. Buses also pick up at Mowe–Ibafo on the Lagos–Ibadan side. Larger operators such as ABC Transport, Chisco and God Is Good Motors also serve the route.
Getting to the park cheaply
You can use LAMATA’s BRT and standard buses to reach the parks. The fares below took effect on 2 March 2026 (Tribune):
- Oshodi → Abule Egba (BRT): ₦680
- Ikeja → Abule Egba (BRT): ₦560
- Ikeja → Iyana Ipaja (standard): ₦440

Common drop-off points include Kuto, Ita-Osin, Lafenwa, Brewery, Panseke and Adatan. Ask the driver before you pay which route they take and where they stop, so you are not left far from where you are going.
Lagos to Abeokuta by train: times and fares
The NRC Lagos–Ibadan standard-gauge train stops at Abeokuta. It leaves Lagos from Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta. It is the most predictable way to make the trip, but there are only a few trains a day, so plan around the timetable.

Driving or chartering a car
NNPC stations in Lagos sold petrol at ₦1,385 per litre on 24 September 2026, and at ₦1,390 in Ogun (Legit.ng). A typical saloon doing about 10 km per litre (an assumption; check your own car) uses about 10 litres for the roughly 99 km trip, which comes to about ₦14,000 one way. Stop-start traffic out of Lagos can push that up noticeably.
Ride-hailing apps and private charters will quote door to door. The price changes with time of day, demand and whether the driver has to come back empty, so compare the in-app fare with a quote from a trusted local driver. Always agree the price before you set off.

For a family, Regular class on the train is the cheapest option, and it avoids the Berger–Sango traffic. A car gives you door-to-door flexibility for about the same cost as four bus seats.

What makes the fare change
- Petrol prices. These are the main reason road fares have more than doubled since 2023.
- Time and day. Friday evenings, public holidays and December cost more.
- Vehicle type. A shared minibus is cheaper than a Sienna or a car seat.
- Luggage. Traders carrying goods often pay extra per bag. Agree the charge before loading.
Safety checklist
- Board at a recognised park or company terminal, not from a car “calling passengers” on the roadside.
- Note the plate number and send it to someone before you set off.
- Keep valuables with you rather than in the boot.
- For the train, buy only from NRC’s e-ticketing portal or the station counter, never from touts or social-media “agents”.
