About Wigmore Trading

Wigmore Trading is a dynamic and rapidly expanding trading and distribution company headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, with growing operations across Africa and global markets. We specialize in international trade, procurement, and distribution of goods and commodities. As we expand our operations across jurisdictions, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented In-house Legal Support to strengthen our compliance, regulatory, and corporate setup capabilities.


Role Overview

As our In-house Legal Support, you will play a key role in ensuring Wigmore Trading’s compliance with local and international laws. You will be responsible for company incorporation and compliance across various countries, license and permit applications, regulatory liaison, and supporting the business development team on contract-related legal matters. You will also work closely with tender writers to ensure legal and administrative compliance in global contract bidding processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle company incorporation and registration in multiple jurisdictions

  • Apply for and manage trade licenses, import/export permits, and regulatory approvals worldwide

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, and partnership agreements

  • Work closely with business development and tender writers to support contract bids and RFP responses

  • Maintain compliance with Nigerian and international corporate, commercial, and trade laws

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, legal advisors, and banking institutions globally

  • Prepare legal documentation for bank account openings and KYC in various countries

  • Maintain an internal legal knowledge base, including country-specific compliance requirements

  • Advise on legal risks, contract structures, and regulatory strategies

  • Conduct legal research to support commercial and strategic decision-making


Requirements

  • LLB from a top Nigerian or African law school (e.g., University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan, University of Ghana, University of Cape Town)

  • BL and active membership of the Nigerian Bar Association

  • Minimum of 3–5 years post-call legal experience, preferably in international trade, corporate law, or regulatory compliance

  • Strong knowledge of company law, contracts, and global trade regulations

  • Experience in cross-border business setups, especially in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and integrity

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with diverse international teams

  • Familiarity with international tender processes and government contract frameworks is a plus


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in International Commercial Law or related field (optional but advantageous)

  • Fluency in French or another international language is a plus

  • Experience working with multinational companies or international law firms
