Job Description

Wigmore Trading, a fast-growing trading company with a strong presence in Africa, is seeking a Global Oil and Gas Trader to spearhead its international trading operations. This high-impact role involves managing the trading of crude oil, refined petroleum products, and natural gas across global markets. The ideal candidate will bring extensive industry experience, a robust network of stakeholders, and the ability to drive profitable deals in a highly competitive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Global Trading Operations: Manage the sourcing, pricing, and trading of crude oil, refined products, and gas across multiple international markets.
  • Market Research: Monitor global oil and gas trends, geopolitical developments, and pricing dynamics to identify trading opportunities.
  • Relationship Management: Build and sustain strong relationships with suppliers, refineries, buyers, and trading counterparties worldwide.
  • Deal Negotiation: Negotiate complex contracts to achieve mutually beneficial terms while maximizing profitability.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain: Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure efficient delivery of commodities, resolving logistical and operational challenges.
  • Risk Management: Evaluate and mitigate market, credit, and operational risks associated with trading activities.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to international trade regulations, sanctions, and environmental standards in all trading operations.
  • Performance Analysis: Track trading activities, profitability, and market positioning, providing detailed reports to senior leadership.
  • Business Development: Expand the company’s trading portfolio by identifying and entering new markets and cultivating new trading opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or relevant professional certification is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in oil and gas trading, with a proven track record of handling large-scale international deals.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the global oil and gas value chain, including supply, demand, logistics, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Networking: Strong global network of industry contacts, including suppliers, buyers, refineries, and financial institutions.
  • Negotiation Skills: Exceptional ability to negotiate complex contracts and close high-value deals under tight deadlines.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze market trends, pricing data, and geopolitical factors to inform trading strategies.
  • Adaptability: Capable of managing multiple deals across diverse markets and adapting to changing market conditions.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in trading platforms, risk management tools, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel frequently for face-to-face negotiations and relationship building.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with international trade regulations, sanctions, and compliance requirements.
