An enterprise VPN in Nigeria can protect traffic between sites or connect authorised remote users to business resources. It belongs within a wider security design that includes identity, firewalls, device management and monitoring. Wigmore Trading can discuss secure-WAN equipment sourcing and integration requirements for a defined project.

Describe who needs access to what. List user groups, sites, applications, managed devices and third-party support requirements before selecting a VPN product or firewall.

Site-to-site and remote-access VPNs

A site-to-site VPN connects networks through encrypted tunnels. Remote access connects an individual user or device. They have different authentication, support and scaling requirements. Decide which applications need access rather than assuming that every remote user should reach the entire internal network.

Encryption protects data in transit within the configured tunnel. It does not make a compromised laptop safe or prove that an account belongs to its legitimate user. NIST’s zero-trust architecture guidance explains why network location alone should not create implicit trust. Apply appropriate authentication and authorisation to the resource being accessed.

Integrate firewall and routing policies

Document permitted traffic between business segments, branches and cloud services. Separate guest devices and operational equipment from sensitive corporate systems where appropriate. A firewall rule should have an owner, business reason and review date. Old temporary access can become a long-term exposure if nobody removes it.

Check how the chosen platform handles internet breakout, inspection and encrypted traffic. Feature names can hide licensing and capacity differences. Compare throughput with the required protections enabled rather than using the fastest headline specification.

Identity and administrator controls

Use individually attributable accounts, suitable multifactor authentication and an approved process for granting privileged access. Define onboarding, account recovery and prompt removal of leavers. Third-party access should be limited to the agreed systems and support purpose.

Secure the management plane as carefully as the data paths. Restrict where administrative interfaces can be reached, keep supported software current and preserve configuration backups. Changes to connectivity and firewall rules should have an approval and rollback process.

Questions for a secure-WAN proposal

Area Buyer’s question
Compatibility Will it interoperate with existing routers, identity systems and cloud services?
Capacity How many concurrent users and tunnels are supported under the required security settings?
Operations Who patches, reviews logs, approves changes and responds to suspected compromise?
Recovery How are access, certificates and configurations restored after a failure?

Test access and failure safely

Use an authorised pilot with representative user groups. Confirm allowed applications work and prohibited paths remain blocked. Test authentication failures, account removal, certificate expiry procedures and loss of the primary internet link. Include the experience of staff working from common remote-access conditions.

Record support arrangements before the rollout. A broken authentication process can prevent legitimate work just as an unavailable circuit can. Staff need a clear route for help without being encouraged to share passwords or bypass controls.

Send a secure connectivity brief

Tell Wigmore your sites, users, current equipment, identity platform and required service boundaries. Specify whether you need hardware supply, migration planning, firewall integration or ongoing management. We can assess the procurement and specialist-delivery scope, with product features, licences and implementation responsibilities confirmed in writing.

For regulated or sensitive environments, involve your own security and compliance owners early. No VPN product alone establishes regulatory compliance, and no general article can replace a review of the organisation’s actual obligations and architecture.
