Food factories need cleaning and sanitation products selected for the process, surface and food-safety system. Wigmore Trading can assess sourcing enquiries for dairy plants, breweries, beverage lines and other processors in Nigeria. Start with a technically approved requirement rather than the broad phrase “food-grade cleaning chemical”.

Define where the product will be used

List food-contact equipment, external equipment surfaces, floors, drains, packaging areas and utilities separately. Explain the materials and process conditions. A chemical suitable for a floor may be unsuitable for a product-contact line.

Cleaning removes soil; sanitizing or disinfection addresses a separate microbiological objective. The approved sanitation programme must define both where needed. Do not assume a detergent performs every sanitation function.

Dairy and brewery purchasing questions

Describe the process equipment, product residues, cleaning system and water quality to the qualified technical supplier. Provide the equipment manufacturer’s compatibility requirements. Avoid selecting a product by category name alone.

For clean-in-place systems, the chemical is only one part of the validated programme. The responsible specialists must approve equipment, process conditions, monitoring and release. This page does not provide a CIP formula or operating recipe.

What “food grade” should mean in an enquiry

Ask for the exact product and its authorised intended use, applicable documents and any rinse or residue requirements. A phrase on a quotation does not make a chemical edible, safe for direct food contact or suitable for every food factory.

The quality and food-safety teams should approve the offered product and instructions. Ecolab’s technical overview illustrates that environmental cleaning programmes combine chemistry, monitoring and operating procedures; it is not a substitute for your site’s validation.

Build a technical approval file

  • Product identity, manufacturer and current specification.
  • Safety data sheet and labelled use instructions.
  • Application and material-compatibility information.
  • Evidence relevant to any claimed sanitation performance.
  • Applicable regulatory documentation.
  • Batch, shelf-life and traceability information.

Link the approval to a specific product rather than allowing generic “equivalents” without review. A formulation or supplier change should follow your change-control procedure.

Compare cost without weakening the process

Assess consumption under the approved programme, cleaning performance, downtime, equipment effects, packaging and supplier support. A cheaper drum can increase total cost if it requires more material or creates operational problems.

Where a product trial is needed, agree the scope, acceptance evidence and responsible sign-off before introducing it into production. Do not replace a validated chemical solely because a new supplier offers a discount.

Storage, delivery and stock rotation

Confirm pack sizes, dispensing requirements, storage compatibility and safe receiving arrangements. Separate chemicals from food and packaging according to the site’s approved controls. Keep labels and batch records intact.

For a broader buying programme, see our bulk industrial chemical sourcing guide. Food-factory approval remains a separate requirement.

Request a sourcing assessment

Send Wigmore Trading the approved specification, use area, equipment or process, monthly quantity, destination and required date. The team can assess supply options and logistics. The site’s qualified personnel remain responsible for technical selection and sanitation validation.

Can a general bleach be used on a dairy line?

Do not assume so. Approve the exact product and process through the site’s technical and food-safety procedures.
