A gold sourcing enquiry should begin with the seller’s authority, the actual product and a verifiable transaction route. A claim of Japanese origin or a familiar refinery name does not establish ownership, purity or lawful supply. Business buyers need independent checks before considering a purchase.
Wigmore Trading can review a documented sourcing or logistics requirement and discuss whether an appropriate scope is available. This page is not an investment recommendation, a live bullion offer or a claim that Wigmore is an accredited refiner or appointed gold dealer.
Define what is being offered
Identify product form, refiner or manufacturer, purity specification, weight, quantity and intended use. Distinguish a manufactured bar from scrap, jewellery material or another product. The required evidence and handling can differ substantially.
Ask where the goods are held, who owns them and which party will contract with the buyer. A photograph or assay document copied from an unrelated consignment is not evidence that the seller controls the offered gold.
Verify the counterparty and supply chain
Use independent corporate, identity and authority checks through qualified professionals. Confirm the payment recipient and any intermediaries. Review provenance, source-of-funds and applicable anti-money-laundering requirements with the responsible advisers before a transaction proceeds.
Do not pay an unfamiliar person for a supposed release certificate or guaranteed allocation without establishing the legal basis and verified contracting parties. Avoid arrangements that depend on false invoices, undeclared carriage or concealed beneficiaries.
What LBMA status does and does not establish
The LBMA Good Delivery list identifies accredited refiners within its stated scope. A seller’s use of a refiner name does not make the seller an accredited dealer or authenticate an individual bar. Verify the actual product and transaction evidence separately.
Do not assume a small bar, scrap lot or unrelated manufacturer’s product is covered by a general accreditation claim. Ask the appropriate independent parties to review markings, records and the proposed acceptance process.
Assay, inspection and acceptance
Agree the independent inspection and assay arrangements before commitment. Define sampling, test method, acceptable tolerances and the process for disputed results with qualified specialists. Testing should be tied to the goods delivered and a documented chain of custody.
Clarify who pays for testing and what happens if the product fails acceptance. A supplier-issued certificate should not be treated as the only assurance for a high-value transaction.
Export, import and secure transport
Confirm the actual Japanese export and destination requirements through the responsible customs and legal professionals. Product form and intended use matter. A transport quotation does not establish that all permits, declarations or reporting requirements have been met.
Use a suitable specialist valuable-cargo route. Agree custody, handovers, insurance and delivery acceptance. Ordinary parcel assumptions may leave significant exclusions or unsuitable security arrangements.
Commercial terms to review
Identify the pricing basis, currency, fees, weight determination, assay settlement and payment milestones. Have qualified advisers review the contract and payment mechanism. Do not treat an unusually large discount as a substitute for due diligence.
Compare the complete transaction cost and the consequences of a delay, failed assay or rejected documentation. Verify any promise of liquidity, buyback or return separately; this guide makes none.
Send a non-sensitive business enquiry
Provide product form, specification, quantity, destination, intended use and your company’s role. Explain which professional advisers and logistics parties are involved. Wigmore can assess whether a suitable sourcing or coordination discussion is possible and what evidence would be needed. Share sensitive identity or financial documents only through verified agreed channels.
