An IoT or edge-computing project should begin with the devices, applications and operating outcome. A fleet alert service, industrial sensor network and low-latency application can need different connectivity and platform arrangements. Wigmore Trading accepts infrastructure sourcing and integration-planning enquiries for Nigeria and Africa. Network access, licensing, technical capability and service availability require confirmation with the relevant providers.

Separate connectivity from the application

A connectivity platform manages aspects of the network service and its commercial or operational lifecycle. Device management, application logic, data storage and alerts may belong to other systems. Ask who owns each function and how they connect. A SIM subscription does not automatically include device firmware support, application hosting or an incident-response service.

Requirement Information for the supplier
Devices Quantity, location, operating environment, power constraints and expected lifecycle.
Connectivity Coverage needs, traffic pattern, roaming or cross-border requirements and service limits.
Management Provisioning, status visibility, access control and retirement responsibilities.
Application Data processing, alerts, integrations and user workflows.
Performance Measured response, availability and recovery requirements for the intended use.

When to consider 5G core modernisation

A 5G core project is a specialist network programme, not simply an IoT software purchase. Define the operator’s authorised role, architecture, integrations and service objectives. The 3GPP service-based architecture specification published by ETSI illustrates the use of services between authorised network functions. Qualified engineers should select applicable releases and specifications; a general standards reference does not prove vendor compatibility.

Edge computing needs a measurable reason

Moving processing nearer a device or service may be useful where the application has specific latency, bandwidth or local-operation requirements. Assess the complete path, including connectivity and application processing. ETSI’s MEC work describes edge-computing concepts and deployment contexts. Do not assume that every edge platform delivers a particular latency or works at every proposed site.

IoT SMS and machine-to-machine alerts

SMS may be considered for certain device notifications or operating workflows, subject to network, device and provider support. Confirm delivery behaviour, message expiry, failure handling and the effect of loss of coverage. A delivery receipt is not necessarily proof that a device executed an instruction. Safety-critical or sensitive functions need a professionally assessed architecture rather than reliance on an ordinary text message alone.

Security and lifecycle planning

Define device identity, authorised access, software updates, data protection and retirement procedures. Identify who handles lost, replaced or compromised devices. Confirm the operating boundary between the connectivity provider, device supplier and application team. A pilot should include outage and recovery scenarios, not only a successful reading from a device in ideal conditions.

Compare realistic commercial proposals

Include hardware, connectivity, hosting, integration, installation, support and replacement costs. Ask how usage, roaming, data retention and growth are charged. Confirm which markets and sites are supported and what evidence backs coverage assumptions. Do not treat a regional keyword such as “Africa platform” as confirmation of uniform service across all countries.

Start an IoT or edge enquiry

Send Wigmore your use case, countries, device quantities, data pattern, service constraints and target dates. Tell us whether you need equipment sourcing, provider comparison or integration discovery. We can help structure a practical brief and confirm available specialist scope. No initial enquiry reserves network capacity, grants an operator licence or commits a named provider to deliver.

Discuss your requirement with Wigmore Trading

Tell us your markets, current systems, required capabilities, scale and target dates. We can help scope sourcing, procurement and integration requirements, with provider access and specialist responsibilities confirmed for the proposed project.

Discuss this requirement on WhatsAppBook an initial consultation

Email a non-sensitive brief to sales@wigmoretrading.com. Keep credentials, subscriber records and live recipient lists out of your initial message.
