Reliable SMS delivery needs clear definitions and a well-run service, not a promise that every message always arrives. Businesses in Nigeria and across Africa should understand submission, provider processing, network delivery and recipient action as different stages. Wigmore Trading accepts messaging procurement and integration enquiries, with route coverage, performance commitments and provider capabilities confirmed for the proposed service.
Define success for each message type
An OTP must arrive while it is useful, a transaction notification must correspond to a real event, and a promotional message must respect recipient permissions. Define the measurement window and purpose for each flow. A single aggregate success rate can conceal serious delays or uneven results between markets and networks. Agree what the dashboard measures before comparing percentages.
| Metric or state | Interpretation question |
|---|---|
| Accepted or submitted | Has the provider only received the request, or has it progressed further? |
| Delivered | What does the provider’s receipt establish, and which limitations apply? |
| Failed or expired | Which error categories and reporting delays are included? |
| Delivery latency | Which start and end events are used for the calculation? |
| Engagement | Is this measured from a reply or application event rather than inferred from delivery? |
Queue management and expiry
Ask how the proposed platform handles volume peaks, prioritisation, message expiry and interrupted processing. A delayed alert can become misleading if it is sent after the underlying event has changed. Specify which flows may wait, which should expire and how the application is informed. Use provider documentation and tests to verify behaviour rather than assuming a queue guarantees eventual useful delivery.
Retries and failover require duplicate controls
Retry policies should distinguish temporary and permanent failures. A network timeout can leave the application uncertain whether a request was accepted. Ask how identifiers and status queries help avoid duplicate messages or duplicate charges. Failover should preserve consent, message purpose and security requirements; it must not be used to circumvent recipient preferences or provider rules.
Routing optimisation without misleading promises
Compare authorised route coverage, delivery evidence, support and total commercial terms. The cheapest route may not meet the service requirement, while a premium label alone does not prove performance. Request dated pilot results for the networks and use cases that matter to you. Do not accept DND bypass or hidden routing practices as a substitute for legitimate messaging acceptance.
Build an operational dashboard
Show volumes, status categories, delivery delay, error trends and reconciliation gaps by a meaningful scope. Keep definitions consistent across reports. State missing receipts and late records instead of silently treating them as success. A dashboard should help the team decide whether to investigate the application, provider or network, with escalation ownership agreed in advance.
Test and contract for measurable support
Run an approved pilot with representative message flows, traffic patterns and recipient permissions. Record limitations and support outcomes. A service-level agreement should define coverage, measurement method, exclusions and remedies rather than simply state “high uptime”. Confirm support hours, incident contacts and the division of responsibility between Wigmore, the actual messaging provider and your application team.
Discuss delivery monitoring with Wigmore
Send your markets, message types, approximate volumes, present delivery issues and integration requirements. Use redacted logs if requested through an agreed channel; do not include OTPs, full recipient lists or credentials in the first message. We can help organise a supplier comparison and measurable brief. Nigerian recipient-preference context is available from the NCC’s unsolicited-messaging guidance.
Discuss your requirement with Wigmore Trading
Tell us your markets, current systems, required capabilities, scale and target dates. We can help scope sourcing, procurement and integration requirements, with provider access and specialist responsibilities confirmed for the proposed project.
Discuss this requirement on WhatsAppBook an initial consultation
Email a non-sensitive brief to sales@wigmoretrading.com. Keep credentials, subscriber records and live recipient lists out of your initial message.
