Network monitoring is most useful when an alarm leads to an accountable service decision. Operators in Nigeria and Africa evaluating an NMS or service-assurance platform need to connect equipment events, customer impact and incident resolution. Wigmore Trading accepts enquiries for monitoring-system procurement and integration planning; proposed products, support coverage and specialist delivery scope must be confirmed.
Define what must be monitored
List networks, sites, devices, services and the records available from each source. Separate equipment health, network performance and customer service quality. A device may be reachable while a customer-facing service performs poorly. State whether the requirement is visibility, faster diagnosis, SLA reporting or a broader operations workflow, and assign a business owner to each objective.
| Function | Buyer’s question |
|---|---|
| Fault management | How are duplicate alarms, severity and affected services handled? |
| Performance and QoS | Which measurements, intervals and coverage limits are defined? |
| Service assurance | How are network events related to the services customers use? |
| SLA management | Which contractual definitions, exclusions and reporting periods apply? |
| Trouble ticketing | Who owns the case, escalation and closure evidence? |
Set meaningful measures
Specify the measurement source, time window, units and calculation method. Availability, latency and service success can have different definitions across providers. A dashboard should disclose missing telemetry and delayed records. Avoid calling a service compliant with an SLA simply because one graph is green. Acceptance needs a reviewed comparison with the actual agreement and intended service scope.
Connect alarms to incident management
Define how an event becomes a ticket, which team investigates and when it escalates. Record responsibility across internal teams, equipment vendors and connectivity providers. The service desk should preserve diagnostic evidence, customer impact, actions taken and the basis for closure. A ticketing platform alone does not provide a staffed operations team or guarantee restoration.
Evaluate interoperability and data quality
Ask suppliers to identify supported equipment, interfaces and versions. Test a representative set of sources and verify that identifiers, timestamps and service relationships are interpreted correctly. Document manual dependencies. An attractive demonstration using prepared data is not evidence that every part of a mixed-vendor production network will be visible.
Pilot against real operational questions
Use an authorised scope with agreed acceptance criteria. Compare alarm quality, investigation effort and the usefulness of service-impact reporting. Include maintenance periods and known incidents where appropriate. The pilot should identify blind spots and workload, not only display alert counts. Confirm who reviews results and whether production access is needed for any next phase.
Commercial and support considerations
Compare deployment, integration, licences, telemetry volume, storage, training and ongoing support. Establish review hours, escalation contacts, response definitions and recovery dependencies. “Carrier grade” and “real-time” should be translated into measurable proposal terms. If managed monitoring is included, state which party watches the system and which party is authorised to change the network.
Discuss service assurance with Wigmore
Send a redacted outline of your network, sites, service priorities, current monitoring tools and target outcomes. Tell us whether you need NMS procurement, service-desk integration or a structured vendor comparison. We can help scope the enquiry and confirm the available specialist support. TM Forum’s implementation architecture is useful background for discussing interoperable operational systems; it does not certify the particular solution being proposed.
Discuss your requirement with Wigmore Trading
Tell us your markets, current systems, required capabilities, scale and target dates. We can help scope sourcing, procurement and integration requirements, with provider access and specialist responsibilities confirmed for the proposed project.
