Sourcing from Japan works best when the enquiry identifies the product, intended application and destination. Wigmore Trading can assess supplier-search and logistics requirements for a defined commercial brief. A supplier’s location does not by itself establish Japanese manufacture, an authorised brand relationship or available stock.

Industrial Chemicals and Processing Ingredients: start with the application
State the chemical identity, CAS reference where available, purity, impurities, physical form, intended process and required quantity. Broad descriptions such as industrial alcohol or fatty acid cover products with materially different properties. Distinguish technical, laboratory, food and pharmaceutical applications before approaching suppliers.
Use a specification and sample approval process
Ask for a current safety data sheet, a batch certificate of analysis and the test methods behind the offered figures. Set acceptance limits for the properties that affect your process. A sample should represent the commercial grade; retain an approved reference and agree how an out-of-specification delivery will be handled. Discuss electronic-process chemicals separately from general industrial grades, including trace-metal and particle requirements.
Match the packaging to the material
Specify drum or bulk format, lining, closure, net weight and storage conditions. Ask a qualified shipper to establish transport classification and compatibility. Do not mix industrial ingredients with food cargo simply to fill a container. Explain any temperature, moisture or contamination sensitivity so the quotation covers suitable handling rather than just movement between ports.
Paints, Adhesives, Cleaning Products and Lubricants: start with the application
Describe the substrate, service conditions and required result. Paint and adhesive orders need the compatible system, surface preparation, application method and pack size. Cleaning chemicals need the soil, surface and intended environment. Lubricants need the equipment requirement and the relevant specification rather than a colour or brand preference.
Evaluate performance in the intended application
Ask for technical and safety data sheets, shelf life and batch identification. Decide whether you need sample trials, colour approval, adhesion testing or compatibility checks before a commercial order. Keep photographic chemicals, inks, industrial coatings and food-site cleaners in distinct specifications. A general-purpose cleaner should not be marketed as approved for a specialised hygiene application without supporting evidence.
Compare the cost of usable coverage
Record dilution or mixing requirements, expected application conditions, waste and storage limits. Compare quotations using the same unit and pack basis. Have the shipper establish transport classification for solvent-containing products. Clarify whether application, operator training and site preparation are part of the enquiry; product supply alone does not include those services.
Energy Commodities and Industrial Fuels: start with the application
State the commodity, specification, quantity, delivery period and receiving facility. Crude petroleum, petroleum gas, coal products, coke and coal-tar oils need different quality, storage and logistics arrangements. A broad request for fuel does not establish the infrastructure, permits or commercial scale needed for a workable transaction.
Establish quality and commercial authority
Ask the proposed seller to demonstrate its authority to offer the cargo and provide the quality evidence relevant to the product. Agree sampling, measurement, inspection and dispute procedures. Define the delivery point and the roles of the terminal, carrier, inspector and receiver. Do not treat an unverified allocation letter or a headline market price as proof of available supply.
Assess infrastructure before discussing delivery
Bulk liquids and gases require a compatible receiving and handling arrangement. Hydrogen needs its specific physical form and delivery system defined; it is not an ordinary container commodity. Electricity is an infrastructure and contractual supply question rather than a freight consignment. Enquiries should identify the licensed project participants and receiving capability before a shipment or supply plan is discussed.
Agree the quality and logistics scope
Ask suppliers to quote the same grade, model, quantity, condition and delivery basis. Define the evidence and sample approval needed before purchase. Record packing, weights, dimensions, handling requirements, proposed collection date and the party responsible for each stage of delivery.
Include inspection, export preparation, freight, insurance, destination charges, duties, storage and final delivery in the comparison. Have the responsible exporter and importer establish the product’s acceptance pathway. For the Japanese official export-control starting point, consult METI’s export-control information; the exact product, recipient and use need their own assessment.
Send a specification-led enquiry
Provide the product or catalogue reference, quantity, intended use, destination and required arrival date. Say whether you need a replacement, production input or wholesale resale stock. Ask Wigmore Trading to clarify the sourcing and logistics scope that can be assessed for your brief.
Return to the Japan product sourcing directory for machinery, vehicles, electronics and regulated procurement. Compare the United States directory if you are evaluating an alternative source market.
Discuss your requirement with Wigmore Trading
Send the product or cargo specification, quantity, destination and required date. Tell us whether you need supplier search, procurement coordination, inspection coordination, consolidation or freight. Availability, scope, responsibilities and prices are confirmed for the actual enquiry.
