Local Company Director

Nigerian company structures often require a locally resident director, and many foreign founders don't have one. We provide a professional resident director to satisfy that requirement — a documented governance role with scope and limits agreed in writing. Your shareholding, your decisions and your control stay entirely yours.

Local Company Director — All Services
Why this exists

A local requirement, met — so you can get established.

The residency requirement stops many foreign businesses before they start. This clears it.

The situation this solves

You want to establish or run a company in Nigeria (or Ghana or Kenya) but you're based abroad
Your company structure requires locally resident directorship and you don't have someone on the ground
You need a professional, accountable person in that role — not a favour from an acquaintance who disappears
Scope, in plain terms

What this role is — and firmly is not.

A resident director carries real responsibility, so we're precise about the boundaries. All of this is fixed in writing before we start.

What it is

A professional resident director named to satisfy your company's local directorship requirement
A governance and compliance role, with duties and limits set out in a written agreement
A person who is accountable and contactable, backed by Wigmore rather than acting alone
Usually taken alongside company registration as part of getting properly set up

What it is not

Not control of your business — your shareholding and decision-making stay entirely with you
Not a way to hide who owns the company — we require full transparency on beneficial ownership
Not a shield for anything unlawful — the role is declined for any purpose we can't stand behind
Not legal advice — we recommend you take independent counsel on your structure
The question everyone asks first

"Does this mean someone else controls my company?" No.

It's the right question to ask, and the answer is a clear no. A resident director satisfies a governance requirement — a named, locally resident person the law expects a company to have. It does not touch who owns the company or who makes its decisions. Your shares are yours; your control is yours.

We put that in writing before anything begins: the director's scope, their duties, their limits, and confirmation that ownership and control remain with you. Clarity on paper is what makes this safe for both sides — and it's why we insist on it.

Fixed in writing, up front
You keep your shares — the director holds no ownership in your company
You make the decisions — commercial control stays with you and your board
Scope agreed on paper — duties and limits written down before day one
A real, accountable person — backed by Wigmore, not a name that vanishes
Most people buy it as part of a set

Rarely bought alone.

The resident director is usually one piece of getting properly established in Nigeria.

Market-entry starter

Register, staff and satisfy the rules — in one move.

Most foreign founders take the director alongside company registration and a business assistant on the ground: the legal foundation, the compliance box ticked, and a person running your day-to-day. Ask us to bundle it and we'll set the whole thing up together.

Straight answers

Before you appoint a director.

Does the director control or own any part of my company?
No. This is a governance role to satisfy a local directorship requirement — it carries no shareholding and no commercial control. Your ownership and decision-making stay entirely with you, and that's set out in a written agreement before the appointment is made. The director's duties and limits are defined on paper, not left vague.
Can I use this to keep my name off the company?
No — and we're direct about this. A resident director satisfies a residency requirement; it is not a way to disguise who really owns or controls a company. We require full transparency on beneficial ownership and conduct due diligence before appointment. Any request whose purpose is to hide ownership or facilitate something unlawful is declined.
Which countries do you cover?
Nigeria is our home base; the service is also available in Ghana and Kenya. Requirements differ by country, so tell us where your company is (or will be) incorporated and we'll confirm what's needed and how the role works there.
Do I need to register a company first?
If you don't have a Nigerian company yet, we can handle that too — registration is $200, and most founders take the director alongside it as part of getting set up. If your company already exists, we simply step into the resident-director role for it. Either way we'll map what you need on the onboarding call.
What happens after I subscribe?
Because a directorship carries real responsibility, appointment follows due diligence and a signed agreement — it isn't instant. After you subscribe or enquire, we contact you within one working hour to begin onboarding: confirming your company details, beneficial ownership, the scope of the role and the written terms. Once that's complete and agreed, the appointment proceeds.
Is this legal advice?
No. We provide the resident-director service itself, not legal advice on your company structure. Company law is specific and your situation may have nuances, so we recommend taking independent legal counsel on how the role fits your setup — and we're happy to work alongside your lawyer.

The local company director service provides a professional resident director to satisfy local directorship requirements, as a governance and compliance role defined by written agreement. It does not transfer, hold or affect ownership or commercial control of the client's company, which remain with the client. The service is provided subject to satisfactory due diligence and a signed agreement, requires full transparency of beneficial ownership, and is declined where the purpose is to conceal ownership or facilitate any unlawful activity. Wigmore Trading does not provide legal advice; clients should obtain independent legal counsel on their corporate structure. Availability and requirements vary by country (Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya). Monthly subscription; prices in USD.
