Lagos Train Schedule 2026: Blue Line, Red Line & NRC Times

Lagos train services at a glance

People searching for “Lagos train schedule today” usually mean one of three different services. Each has its own operator, days and way of paying, so check which one you need before you set out.

Blue Line schedule: Marina and Mile 2

The Blue Line is Lagos’s first light-rail line, run by LAMATA. It opened to the public on 4 September 2023. Phase 1 is about 13 km long, with five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba and Mile 2. Phase 2, from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, is under construction and is expected in 2027. It is not open yet, so you cannot ride the Blue Line to Okokomaiko today.

Mile 2 train station schedule today: the first train to Marina leaves at 05:40 and the last at 21:52. In the morning rush, trains come about every 8–12 minutes. Outside peak hours the gap is longer. LAMATA’s schedule page has live train tracking that updates every minute, so check it before you leave home rather than relying on a fixed time.

Marina train station schedule: the first train to Mile 2 is at 05:30 and the last at 21:50. If you work on the Island and live along the Badagry Expressway, the last trains are the ones to watch. Missing the 21:50 means going home by road.

Sundays and public holidays: LAMATA’s published schedule covers Monday to Saturday. Some third-party guides mention a reduced Sunday service. Confirm on the LAMATA site or at the station before planning a Sunday or holiday trip.

Red Line schedule: Agbado, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi and Oyingbo

The Red Line began commercial service on 15 October 2024. It shares the corridor with the old NRC narrow-gauge line and links the Ogun border (Agbado) with the Mainland (Oyingbo). LAMATA’s current timetable lists eight stops: Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba and Oyingbo.

The Red Line is a commuter service, not an all-day metro. It runs Monday to Friday only, with trains in the morning and evening peaks and nothing in the middle of the day. LAMATA lists nine trains a day, and the end-to-end trip takes about 50 minutes.

Southbound: Agbado → Oyingbo (into town)

Northbound: Oyingbo → Agbado (out of town)

Agege train station schedule today

From Agege into town, trains leave at 06:31, 07:26 and 09:26 in the morning and at 19:06 and 20:06 in the evening. Trains heading back towards Agbado reach Agege at 06:36, 08:46, 17:56 and 19:16. If you work on the Mainland, the 07:26 gets you to Yaba at 07:54 and Oyingbo at 08:00.

Ikeja train station schedule

From Ikeja towards Oshodi, Yaba and Oyingbo, trains leave at 06:38, 07:33, 09:33, 19:13 and 20:13. Trains towards Agege and Agbado leave Ikeja at 06:29, 08:39, 17:49 and 19:09.

Do not confuse the Red Line with the NRC narrow-gauge train. NRC still runs weekday “mass transit” trains from Iddo and Ijoko on the old line. These are separate services with different tickets. NRC’s Lagos District page says they do not run at weekends. The Guardian reported the narrow-gauge fare at ₦750 in December 2024.

Blue and Red Line fares

Both LAMATA lines charge by distance, and you pay by tapping a Cowry card at the gate. You cannot pay cash at the gate.

Blue Line fares

Red Line fares

How to pay: the Cowry card

You need a Cowry card, the Lagos State transport smart card, for both LAMATA rail lines. The same card works on BRT buses and LAGFERRY boats, so one card covers a trip that mixes rail, bus and boat.

1. Get a card at a Blue Line or Red Line station or at a BRT terminal. A June 2026 guide put the card at about ₦600–₦700, with a minimum first top-up of ₦500. Ask at the counter, because this price is not published on LAMATA’s schedule pages.
2. Load money at the station machines or through the Cowry app, which can be linked to your bank account.
3. Tap in and tap out. The fare is worked out from where you enter and leave, so always tap out at your destination.
4. Keep a buffer. Make sure your balance covers the full-line fare (₦750 on the Blue Line, ₦1,000 on the Red Line) before you tap in.

NRC Lagos–Ibadan train schedule and fares

The Nigerian Railway Corporation’s Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) runs on the standard-gauge line from Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta, to Moniya in Ibadan, stopping at Abeokuta. Tips, safety and avoiding scams

Before you travel

• Check the day. The Red Line runs on weekdays only and the Blue Line from Monday to Saturday. NRC’s Friday and Saturday timetable is different from the rest of the week.
• Check live status. Both LAMATA schedule pages have real-time tracking. The Red Line has been suspended before for mechanical faults, for example in December 2024 (The Guardian), so check before you leave.
• Arrive early for NRC. Long-distance trains leave on time, and you need time to find your coach.
• Plan the last mile. Oyingbo and Mile 2 are busy interchanges. Know which BRT or bus you will take next and keep enough on your Cowry card for it.

Avoid ticket and card scams

• Buy Cowry cards and top-ups only at station counters, official machines or the official Cowry app, never from touts.
• Book NRC tickets only through NRC’s own portal or the station. Be wary of social-media “agents” who ask you to pay into a personal account.

What is the Lagos train schedule today?

On a weekday, the Blue Line runs from about 05:30 to 21:50 between Marina and Mile 2. The Red Line has morning trains (Agbado from 06:15, Oyingbo from 06:00) and evening trains (Oyingbo 17:20 and 18:40, Agbado 18:50 and 19:50). The NRC Ibadan train leaves Lagos at 08:00 and 16:00 from Sunday to Thursday. On Saturdays only the Blue Line and NRC run. The Red Line does not run at weekends.

What time does the first train leave Mile 2?

05:40, towards Marina. The last departure from Mile 2 is at 21:52 (LAMATA, September 2026).

What time does the Red Line leave Agege?

Towards Oyingbo: 06:31, 07:26, 09:26, 19:06 and 20:06. Towards Agbado: 06:36, 08:46, 17:56 and 19:16. Monday to Friday only.

How much is the Red Line from Agbado to Oyingbo?

₦1,000. The fare was cut by 30% from ₦1,500 in February 2025. Shorter trips cost ₦350–₦750.

Can I pay cash on the Blue or Red Line?

No. Both lines use the Cowry card, and you tap in and out at the gates. You can buy and top up the card at stations, at BRT terminals or through the Cowry app.

Does the Blue Line go to Okokomaiko yet?

No. The line currently ends at Mile 2. Phase 2 to Okokomaiko is under construction and is expected in 2027.

Does the Red Line stop at Marina?

Not yet. The Red Line currently ends at Oyingbo. A planned Phase 2 would extend it towards Marina to connect with the Blue Line, but it is not running. To get from the Red Line to the Blue Line today, you have to cross between Oyingbo and Marina by road.
