Job Description

Wigmore Trading is seeking an experienced and driven Agri Commodities Trader to join our team in Lagos, Nigeria. This role involves managing the trading of agricultural commodities such as grains, oilseeds, cocoa, coffee, and other key products. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of agricultural markets, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven ability to build and maintain trading relationships across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trading Activities: Manage the end-to-end trading of agricultural commodities, including sourcing, pricing, and selling products in local and international markets.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, supply and demand dynamics, and geopolitical developments to identify trading opportunities.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, suppliers, buyers, and other stakeholders in the agri-commodity value chain.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate purchase and sale agreements, ensuring favorable terms for the company while managing risk effectively.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with logistics and operations teams to ensure timely delivery of commodities and resolve any logistical challenges.
  • Risk Management: Evaluate and mitigate risks related to price fluctuations, credit exposure, and market volatility.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all local and international trade regulations and standards for agricultural commodities.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track trading performance, profitability, and market positioning, providing detailed reports to the management team.
  • Business Development: Identify new trading opportunities and expand the company’s agri-commodities portfolio.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in agri-commodities trading, with a successful track record in local and international markets.
    • Deep understanding of key agricultural markets and commodities traded in Nigeria and globally.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
    • Excellent analytical abilities and knowledge of commodity pricing and market trends.
    • Proficiency in financial tools, market analysis platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Network: Established relationships with suppliers, buyers, and other key stakeholders in the agricultural trading space.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Nigerian and international regulations for agri-commodity trading.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Results-oriented and able to thrive in a high-pressure trading environment.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel locally and internationally as required to build relationships and manage trading operations.
