About Wigmore Trading

Wigmore Trading is a fast-growing trading and distribution company based in Lagos, Nigeria. The company supplies commodities, equipment, and services to businesses across Africa.

As part of our expansion strategy, Wigmore Trading is launching a B2B food supply and cold-chain distribution business aimed at improving affordability, availability, and reliability of staple food products for retailers, restaurants, and small businesses.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven professional to lead the development and scaling of this new business unit.


Role Summary

The Head of Food Supply & Distribution will lead Wigmore Trading’s B2B staples distribution and cold-chain micro-fulfilment operations in Nigeria.

The role focuses on building supplier networks, managing procurement and logistics, establishing distribution hubs, and developing reliable delivery systems for retailers and food businesses.

This position requires a strong operator with experience in food distribution, FMCG supply chains, wholesale trade, logistics, or cold-chain operations.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Develop and execute the strategy for Wigmore Trading’s B2B food staples and cold-chain distribution business.

  • Build procurement relationships with farmers, wholesalers, processors, and food importers.

  • Identify high-demand categories such as rice, grains, vegetables, proteins, and packaged staples.

  • Establish supplier partnerships that ensure consistent product quality and pricing advantages.

Distribution & Operations

  • Develop and manage micro-fulfilment hubs and cold storage facilities.

  • Build a hub-and-spoke distribution network for reliable delivery across Lagos.

  • Manage inventory control, spoilage prevention, and quality assurance processes.

  • Oversee logistics operations including vehicles, delivery routes, and warehouse management.

Sales & Market Expansion

  • Build strong relationships with retail provision stores, market traders, restaurants, caterers, and food vendors.

  • Develop a B2B ordering system with predictable next-day delivery.

  • Introduce retailer membership programs offering discounted pricing and delivery benefits.

  • Expand customer acquisition through retailer cooperatives, restaurant clusters, and bulk buying groups.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Manage procurement pricing and margin structures for staple commodities.

  • Monitor working capital cycles, inventory turnover, and operational efficiency.

  • Develop additional revenue streams including cold storage services, supplier promotions, and delivery fees.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit and manage teams across procurement, warehouse operations, logistics, and sales.

  • Implement systems for inventory tracking, shrink control, and operational accountability.

  • Ensure operational discipline and high service standards across the distribution network.


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Agriculture, Logistics, or related field.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in food distribution, FMCG supply chains, logistics, wholesale trading, or cold-chain operations.

  • Experience managing warehouse operations, procurement, and delivery logistics.

  • Proven ability to build supplier relationships and manage inventory at scale.

Skills

  • Strong procurement and supplier negotiation skills.

  • Experience managing distribution networks and logistics operations.

  • Strong financial and operational management capability.

  • Ability to operate in fast-moving and entrepreneurial environments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in food wholesale, FMCG distribution, agricultural supply chains, or cold storage operations.

  • Familiarity with Nigeria’s informal retail ecosystem including market traders and provision stores.

  • Experience launching or scaling distribution platforms or B2B marketplaces.
