DJI drone training in Lagos should prepare you for the work you intend to do, not simply show you how to take off. A photographer, survey team and agricultural operator need different practical skills. Before booking a course, ask what is taught, who assesses competence and what the certificate actually represents.

Wigmore Trading can discuss equipment procurement and training or familiarisation requirements within your package enquiry. Confirm the provider, syllabus, dates, fees and any accreditation claims in writing; this guide does not advertise an NCAA-approved Wigmore academy.

Start with the intended operation

Explain whether you want recreational familiarisation, paid camera work, mapping, inspection or agricultural application. Identify the model and your current experience. A general camera-drone introduction is not a substitute for the additional knowledge required to collect survey data or handle an agricultural application system.

If you already own an aircraft, check that the course covers the exact model or a clearly transferable workflow. Confirm whether aircraft, batteries, charging, practice site and insurance arrangements are included. Ask how much supervised practical time each learner receives rather than judging the course only by the number of classroom days.

Learning area Evidence to request
Aircraft familiarisation Model-specific checks, limits, controls and manual use
Flight planning Site assessment, weather, permissions and safe contingencies
Practical competence Supervised exercises and documented assessment criteria
Application workflow Camera, mapping, inspection or agricultural task exercises
Course completion Named issuer, scope, assessment record and stated recognition

Course certificates are not operating permissions

A course completion certificate, a manufacturer-related course, a pilot qualification and an operator authorisation are separate matters. Ask the provider to explain which outcome it offers and what it does not cover. Avoid assuming that the phrase “DJI certification” means recognition by the Nigerian aviation regulator.

The NCAA RPAS certification service describes the commercial operator certification route. Check the current requirements applicable to your aircraft and intended operation directly with NCAA. A paid training course or equipment purchase cannot replace those requirements or provide permission for every site.

What a practical pilot course should help you do

You should learn to inspect equipment, understand flight modes, plan a safe take-off and landing area, manage batteries and recognise when conditions exceed your capability. Ask how abnormal situations and decision making are taught without exposing people or property to unnecessary risk.

Flight training should build a habit of using current manuals and operational procedures. The pilot must understand obstacles, nearby people, privacy, airspace restrictions and the limits of automated functions. Obstacle sensing and return-to-home features do not remove the need for competent planning and supervision.

Choose a specialist module for paid work

Camera operators need shot planning, exposure, smooth movement and a data backup workflow. Survey teams need mission planning, coordinate systems, control, processing and accuracy assessment under competent survey oversight. Inspection teams need an asset brief and a process for interpreting and reporting observations.

Agricultural operators need a separate, appropriate application and safety workflow. Training should be matched to the equipment, crop task and permitted materials. An agronomist and competent operators should determine application suitability; a short general drone course should not be marketed as sufficient preparation for chemical spraying.

Questions to ask a drone academy in Lagos

Ask for the provider’s legal name, instructor background, class size, equipment and assessment method. If approval or accreditation is claimed, request the issuer and verification route. Check whether regulatory application assistance is a separate service with separate costs.

Clarify cancellation, weather postponement, equipment-damage responsibility and retest conditions. Request an example of the course record and certificate with any personal information removed. The purpose is to understand the competence and evidence you will gain, not simply to collect a badge.

Plan the equipment and learning budget together

Include the aircraft, controller, suitable storage media, batteries, charging and protective transport. Add the training or familiarisation the team genuinely needs, software for the application and any independent regulatory costs. An affordable aircraft can still be expensive to deploy if the required skills and data workflow have been omitted.

For an organisation, identify who will fly, who will review the output and who is responsible for equipment records. Define when the learner can work independently and how continued competence will be maintained. A successful course should lead into a workable operating procedure.
