Wholesale fabrics and garments from India should be bought against an approved construction, fit and quality standard. Knitted and woven products, leather apparel and treated fabrics require different checks. Wigmore Trading can discuss supplier identification, sampling and export logistics for a defined order.
Specify fabrics accurately
Light and heavy woven cotton need an agreed construction, weight, width, finish and shrinkage limits. Synthetic filament woven fabrics and rubberised knitted materials have different performance and application requirements. The word “cotton” does not settle blend, finish or quality.
Agree testing relevant to the end use, such as dimensional stability, colourfastness or other required characteristics. The buyer’s technical team should define the methods and limits. A swatch should be linked to the bulk specification and lot.
Garment assortment and fit
For knitted T-shirts, sweaters, suits, shirts, activewear and undergarments, distinguish construction and product type. Men’s, women’s and babies’ garments need appropriate sizing and safety checks. Provide measurements and tolerances rather than relying solely on a size label.
Leather apparel needs material identification, finish, construction and care information. Do not allow substituted leather, coatings or linings without approval. Private-label production should use buyer-approved artwork and authorised designs.
Approve samples and control production
Agree development, pre-production and shipment samples where relevant. Record colour references, fabric hand, stitching, trims and packaging. State which changes require approval and how nonconforming goods are handled.
Inspect the order against a documented plan, including the size and colour assortment. A visually attractive sample does not prove the whole order meets measurements or composition claims. Retain evidence that supports repeat production.
Destination rules and labelling
| Area | Buying check |
|---|---|
| Composition | Accurate fibre or material description and supporting evidence. |
| Labels | Care, sizing, origin and required market-language information. |
| Claims | Certification, sustainability and brand-use evidence. |
| Safety | Requirements relevant to the wearer, material and intended use. |
Check current export and destination requirements before production. Children’s products and special-performance clothing may need additional evidence. Do not assume an exporter’s general documents cover every product in the assortment.
