Get in touch on Whatsapp now:

✅ What is the F-1 Visa?

The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa for students who have been accepted to study full-time at a U.S.-approved school, university, or college.

📋 Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for an F-1 visa, you must:

  • Be accepted by a SEVP-certified school in the U.S.

  • Prove you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your studies.

  • Show strong ties to Nigeria and intent to return after completing your program.

  • Speak proficient English (or be enrolling in English language training).

📝 Application Process

Step 1: Apply to a SEVP-Approved School

  • You must be accepted before you can begin the visa process.

  • The school will issue you a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility).

Step 2: Pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee

  • Go to fmjfee.com and pay the $350 SEVIS fee.

  • Print the payment confirmation—it’s required for your visa interview.

Step 3: Complete the DS-160 Form

  • Fill out the U.S. visa application form online at:
    https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

  • Upload a passport-sized photo as per U.S. requirements.

  • Print your DS-160 confirmation page.

Step 4: Pay the Visa Fee

Step 5: Book Your Visa Interview

  • Schedule your interview at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or Consulate in Lagos.

  • You’ll need:

    • Your passport

    • DS-160 confirmation

    • SEVIS payment receipt

    • I-20 form

    • Visa appointment confirmation

📂 Documents Required for Interview

  • Valid Nigerian passport

  • Form I-20 from your U.S. school

  • SEVIS payment receipt

  • DS-160 confirmation page

  • Visa appointment letter

  • Bank statements, scholarship letters, or sponsorship proof (financial support)

  • Academic records: transcripts, certificates, test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, etc.)

  • Proof of ties to Nigeria (e.g. family, job offer, business, or property ownership)

🗣️ What to Expect at the Interview

The U.S. consular officer will ask questions like:

  • Why did you choose this school?

  • What is your course of study?

  • How will you fund your education?

  • What are your plans after graduation?

➡️ Be honest, confident, and clear.

⏳ Processing Time

  • Standard processing is 7–21 business days, but can vary.

  • Apply at least 2–3 months before your program start date.

🔁 Can You Work on an F-1 Visa?

  • Yes, but with restrictions:

    • On-campus work: up to 20 hours/week during school

    • Off-campus: only after 1 year and with DHS authorization (CPT/OPT)
