Your message tells us which page you came from

A project becomes easier to assess when its customer, operating plan and funding need are clear. Entrepreneurs researching Africa business opportunities, development finance or impact funding need more than a promising sector name. A credible brief explains what will be built or delivered, who will pay and what could prevent success.

Wigmore Trading welcomes enquiries about sourcing, distribution, equipment and logistics for defined projects. This page does not promise grants, investor introductions, financing approval or investment returns.

Match the sector to a real requirement

Agricultural processing, manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics, mining services, maritime operations, hospitality, education and fintech each have different customers and operating constraints. Identify a specific demand problem before choosing equipment or seeking capital.

A factory needs a product specification and route to market. A training institute needs credible delivery and recognition arrangements. A logistics service needs operating capacity and contracted demand. General claims about fast-growing African markets do not replace those facts.

Build a reviewable project file

Section Evidence to prepare
Demand Customer research, contracts or clearly labelled assumptions
Delivery Site, people, equipment, suppliers and realistic schedule
Economics Capital needs, working capital, operating costs and downside cases
Governance Ownership, decision rights, reporting and accountability
Impact Defined outcomes, baseline and a practical measurement method

Keep confirmed facts separate from forecasts. A supplier’s indicative quotation, a customer’s verbal interest and a signed contract have different evidential value. Date each document and identify dependencies.

Choose the funding route honestly

Trading revenue, debt, equity, philanthropic support and grants are not interchangeable. Each can involve different eligibility, repayment, reporting and control requirements. A nonprofit-private hybrid needs a lawful structure and transparent handling of money.

Use the funder’s current official criteria and application process. Do not describe an organisation as a funding partner because its name appears in a sector report. Grant support is not guaranteed, and a commercially viable project may still be ineligible for a particular programme.

Measure impact without inflated claims

For ESG or community projects, define outputs and outcomes separately. Equipment delivered, people trained and sustained improvements are different measures. Explain how results will be verified and what attribution is reasonable.

Purpose-driven or faith-inspired positioning can explain motivation, but investors and donors still need costs, governance and delivery evidence. Avoid calling an investment low-risk because it has a social objective.

Plan regional expansion in stages

West Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa contain different markets. Choose countries against demand, regulation, supplier access, logistics and management capacity. Reuse a proven process while reviewing local requirements rather than copying a country forecast across the region.

For an equipment-led project, compare total delivered cost, installation, commissioning, training, spares and maintenance. Working capital and service capability may be as important as the initial machine purchase.

What is the best business opportunity in Africa?

There is no universal answer. A suitable opportunity depends on the team’s capability, customers, capital and operating conditions. Assess a defined proposal with independent professional advice where needed.

How can Wigmore help?

Share the project stage, location, customer requirement and practical sourcing or logistics scope. The team can discuss procurement options and confirm what support is available. Financing and investment decisions remain separate.

Prepare a useful enquiry

Note the project location, intended role, current stage, product or service specification, quantities, delivery point and timetable. Separate confirmed facts from assumptions and identify documents that still need verification. Start with a non-confidential brief; do not submit credentials, personal medical records or restricted project files through a general sales enquiry.

This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
