A drilling rig leasing enquiry in Nigeria needs more than a location and a day rate. The rig must suit the well programme, terrain, access, operating environment and mobilisation window. Wigmore Trading can help organise a rig sourcing and procurement enquiry around those requirements, with the proposed rig, contractor and commercial scope confirmed before any commitment.
Use this guide if you are seeking drilling rig rental, oil rig hire or a rig supplier in Nigeria or West Africa. It is an enquiry route, not a live inventory of owned or immediately available rigs. A rig shown in a catalogue or a photograph is not proof that it is released from its current contract or suitable for your well.
Which rig package do you need?
| Environment | Starting point for your enquiry |
|---|---|
| Onshore | Land access, pad capacity, well programme, transport dimensions and rig-up arrangements |
| Swamp or marsh | Site and water conditions, barge configuration, access route and marine mobilisation study |
| Shallow-water offshore | Water depth, seabed assessment, jack-up suitability and site-specific approval |
| Deepwater offshore | Floating-unit suitability, station keeping, subsea interfaces and operator technical review |
Do not select a rig using a single horsepower or depth label. The operator’s competent technical team should establish the required capacity and assess the complete proposed package. Workover, water-well, mining and oilfield drilling equipment are also different procurement categories; identify the intended task at the outset.
Leasing, rental and drilling services are different scopes
In rig enquiries, “lease”, “rent” and “hire” are often used loosely. A bare equipment arrangement is not the same as a staffed drilling contract. Ask whether the proposal includes crew, maintenance, inspection, spares, consumables, fuel, well-control equipment, logistics and insurance. The drilling contractor and operator must have a clear allocation of responsibility.
If you need turnkey or integrated drilling services, use a separate scope and responsibility matrix. A supplier introduction or rig sourcing proposal does not automatically include well design, regulatory approvals, operational management or responsibility for drilling outcomes.
What determines rig availability in Nigeria?
Ask for the named rig, current location, technical dossier, present contract status and earliest realistic mobilisation date. Distinguish a firm release from an indicative availability window. Reactivation, maintenance, inspection, modifications and transport can all affect when a unit is ready for your campaign.
A useful availability confirmation identifies its date, assumptions and validity. Require the owner or authorised contracting party to support the offer. Do not pay a reservation fee simply because an intermediary has forwarded a rig specification sheet.
Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and the Niger Delta
Lagos may be a commercial procurement point while Port Harcourt or Warri is closer to a project’s support base. Neither is the final mobilisation location unless the contract says so. Give the actual field or site coordinates through a secure project channel, access conditions, delivery point and campaign dates. For a Niger Delta swamp project, include the relevant marine route and site data for specialist review.
West Africa rig hire requires a country-specific plan. A unit based in another country may need export, import, customs, crewing and operating arrangements before deployment. Cross-border availability is not equivalent to permission to operate.
Compare total campaign cost
Compare the day-rate basis alongside mobilisation, demobilisation, standby, minimum hire, crew, maintenance, testing, consumables and any third-party services. Ask which events start the billing clock and how downtime is treated. Define inspection and acceptance milestones and the evidence required before the rig is considered ready.
Regulatory and contractor checks belong in procurement, not after delivery. Verify the proposed operating entity’s current service permissions and the applicable rig and well approvals through the relevant authority. NUPRC provides an official permit-verification route. A procurement conversation with Wigmore is not evidence that Wigmore owns the rig or holds the operating contractor’s permissions.
Send a rig leasing enquiry
Provide the country and project location, terrain, well type and programme summary, technical requirements approved by your team, required start window, expected duration and preferred contracting scope. Include what you already have and what must be supplied. Wigmore can then scope the sourcing, equipment and logistics enquiry without promising unverified inventory or a fixed mobilisation date.
Before you approve the proposal
Can I get an immediate price?
A budget indication may be possible once the requirements are understood. A firm proposal needs the named asset, confirmed availability, scope and assumptions. There is no reliable universal Nigerian rig rental price that applies to every campaign.
Does an enquiry reserve a rig?
No. Ask for written confirmation of the reservation process, technical acceptance conditions and commercial milestones. Do not schedule dependent project work on an unconfirmed marketing availability statement.
