Architect (Design & Project Delivery)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Company: African Land
Employment Type: Full-time

About African Land

African Land is a fast-growing property services and development company delivering high-quality residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects across Nigeria and Africa. We are known for combining strong design thinking with disciplined execution, regulatory compliance, and long-term value creation.

Role Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Architect of the highest professional and academic caliber to join our Lagos-based team. The successful candidate will play a lead role in architectural design, technical coordination, approvals, and site delivery across multiple projects.

This role is ideal for an architect who combines design excellence, technical rigor, and real-world construction experience, and who is comfortable operating at a high standard in a fast-paced development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural concept design, schematic design, and detailed construction documentation.

  • Coordinate effectively with structural, MEP, civil, and fire consultants to ensure fully integrated designs.

  • Prepare and review drawings, schedules, and specifications to African Land’s quality standards.

  • Manage planning and statutory approval processes, including submissions to LASBCA and other relevant authorities.

  • Participate in client presentations, design reviews, and value-engineering exercises while maintaining design integrity.

  • Provide architectural support during construction: site inspections, RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and issue resolution.

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian building codes, planning regulations, and best construction practices.

  • Contribute to internal design standards, technical libraries, and mentoring of junior team members where required.

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc/B.Tech and M.Sc (or M.Arch) in Architecture from a recognised, competitive institution.

  • 5–10+ years of proven professional experience delivering built projects, preferably in Lagos.

  • Strong track record across multiple project stages—from concept through construction and handover.

  • Deep understanding of construction detailing, materials, and site coordination.

  • Ability to work confidently with developers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Preferred Academic Background (Indicator of Highest Quality & Caliber)

While exceptional candidates from all accredited institutions are encouraged to apply, strong preference will be given to applicants educated at Nigeria’s most competitive architecture schools, including:

  • University of Lagos (UNILAG)

  • Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

  • Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria

  • University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

  • Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)

  • Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA)

  • Covenant University

  • Bells University of Technology

(Candidates from other institutions must demonstrate equivalent excellence through portfolio quality and delivery experience.)

Professional Registration (Highly Advantageous)

  • Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA)

  • Registration with ARCON (or actively in progress)

Technical & Software Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD (Revit preferred).

  • Experience with SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, or 3ds Max.

  • High-quality visual and presentation skills using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.

  • Strong document control, drawing coordination, and technical accuracy.

Personal Attributes

  • Design-driven with strong aesthetic judgment and attention to detail.

  • Practical, solutions-oriented, and comfortable dealing with site realities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • High integrity, ownership mindset, and consistent delivery standards.

What We Offer

  • Competitive remuneration, aligned with experience and capability.

  • Opportunity to work on landmark developments in Lagos and across Africa.

  • Clear career progression toward Senior Architect / Project Architect / Design Lead roles.

  • Exposure to high-level development, construction, and investment projects.
