Role Summary
Wigmore Trading is seeking a skilled and dependable Refrigeration and Electromechanical Engineer to install, operate, diagnose, repair and maintain the company’s refrigeration and food-processing equipment.
The successful candidate will work on cold rooms, commercial refrigeration systems, ice cream machines and puffed-snack production machinery. This is a practical, hands-on role requiring strong refrigeration, electrical and mechanical engineering capabilities.
The engineer will be responsible for keeping equipment safe, efficient and operational while reducing downtime through preventive maintenance and timely repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Refrigeration and Cooling Systems
- Install, inspect, service and repair cold rooms, freezers, chillers and related refrigeration systems.
- Diagnose faults affecting compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigerant lines, thermostats and temperature controls.
- Maintain and repair commercial ice cream machines and associated cooling equipment.
- Check refrigerant pressure, system temperature, airflow and electrical performance.
- Identify refrigerant leaks and carry out repairs in accordance with applicable safety procedures.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements that reduce breakdowns and energy consumption.
Snack-Production Machinery
- Maintain and repair puffed-snack and related food-processing machines.
- Diagnose mechanical faults involving motors, bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, shafts, pumps and conveyors.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults involving control panels, contactors, relays, sensors, switches and wiring.
- Carry out machine adjustments, component replacements and equipment overhauls.
- Support machine installation, testing, commissioning and production-line changeovers.
- Work with production teams to minimise machine downtime and improve operating reliability.
Preventive Maintenance and Operations
- Develop and follow preventive-maintenance schedules for all assigned equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify potential failures before breakdowns occur.
- Respond promptly to emergency equipment faults.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, inspection and spare-parts records.
- Recommend required spare parts, tools and replacement components.
- Ensure equipment manuals, diagrams and maintenance documents are properly maintained.
- Provide basic equipment training and technical guidance to machine operators.
- Follow workplace safety, hygiene and food-production requirements.
- Keep engineering work areas organised and ensure tools are used and stored correctly.
Required Qualifications
- HND or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- Relevant technical certification in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical installation or industrial maintenance is an advantage.
- At least three to five years of practical experience in industrial refrigeration, food-production machinery, manufacturing equipment or a related technical environment.
- Demonstrable experience maintaining cold rooms and commercial refrigeration systems.
- Practical experience with industrial electrical and mechanical fault-finding.
- Ability to read electrical diagrams, equipment manuals and mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with compressors, electric motors, control panels, sensors, relays and production-line components.
- Understanding of preventive maintenance and workplace safety procedures.
Preferred Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have worked with one or more of the following:
- Cold rooms and walk-in freezers
- Industrial or commercial refrigeration systems
- Ice cream production or dispensing machines
- Puffed-snack or food-extrusion machines
- Food-processing and packaging equipment
- Conveyor systems
- Electrical control panels
- Motors, pumps and gearboxes
- Manufacturing or FMCG production lines
Skills and Competencies
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability
- Practical refrigeration and HVAC knowledge
- Ability to diagnose faults accurately and work independently
- Preventive-maintenance planning
- Attention to safety and food-production hygiene
- Good record-keeping and technical-reporting skills
- Ability to work under pressure during equipment breakdowns

- Willingness to work flexible hours when urgent repairs are required
