Wigmore Trading is a fast-growing trading and distribution company based in Lagos, Nigeria. The company operates across multiple sectors supplying commodities, equipment, and services to businesses across Africa.

As part of our expansion strategy, Wigmore Trading is launching a fintech platform focused on SME payments, cashflow management tools, and embedded credit services.

Our goal is to help small and medium-sized businesses accept payments, manage transactions, access working capital, and improve financial visibility through reliable financial technology solutions.

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial professional to lead the development and scaling of this fintech business unit.


Role Summary

The Head of Fintech & SME Payments will lead the development and growth of Wigmore Trading’s payments and financial services platform for merchants and SMEs.

The role focuses on building payment infrastructure, merchant acquiring networks, transaction reconciliation tools, and embedded finance products that help businesses manage cashflow and access working capital.

This position requires a professional with strong experience in payments, fintech, banking infrastructure, merchant services, or financial technology platforms.


Key Responsibilities

Product & Business Strategy

  • Develop and implement the strategy for Wigmore Trading’s SME payments and financial services platform.

  • Design product offerings including merchant payments, POS solutions, payment aggregation, and financial management tools.

  • Identify opportunities to develop embedded credit products based on transaction data and payment history.

Merchant & SME Solutions

  • Build payment and transaction solutions tailored for SMEs, informal merchants, and small businesses.

  • Develop financial tools to help businesses manage cashflow, reconciliation, payroll, and inventory payments.

  • Identify high-value verticals such as schools, pharmacies, restaurants, and retail merchants.

Payments Infrastructure

  • Build relationships with banks, payment processors, and financial infrastructure providers.

  • Develop systems for secure transaction processing, settlement, and merchant reconciliation.

  • Ensure reliability, fraud prevention, and compliance with payment system regulations.

Distribution & Growth

  • Build merchant acquisition strategies through agent networks, POS device distribution, and partnerships.

  • Expand payment adoption among SMEs and merchants in Lagos and other key markets.

  • Develop partnerships with employers, payroll platforms, and SME networks.

Embedded Finance & Credit

  • Design working-capital products for merchants based on transaction history and business cashflow.

  • Develop responsible credit models that minimize default risk.

  • Implement systems for credit underwriting, monitoring, and collections.


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in fintech, payments, banking infrastructure, or financial technology platforms.

  • Experience in merchant acquiring, payment gateways, POS distribution, or digital banking platforms.

  • Experience building or scaling fintech products for SMEs or merchants.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of payment systems and fintech infrastructure.

  • Experience working with financial regulators and compliance frameworks.

  • Strong product development and commercial strategy capability.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams across technology, operations, and sales.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Nigerian fintech companies, payment processors, or digital banking platforms.

  • Familiarity with merchant payments, POS distribution, or financial infrastructure platforms.

  • Experience launching embedded finance or SME credit products.
