Role Overview

The Minerals & Commodities Trader – Niger will lead Wigmore’s mineral and commodity trading operations within Niger. The role focuses on sourcing, negotiation, contract execution, and market expansion, ensuring all trade activities are compliant, profitable, and strategically aligned with Wigmore’s regional goals.

This position requires a commercially astute professional with deep knowledge of the Nigerien minerals sector, exceptional negotiation ability, and a strong understanding of international trade and logistics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify mineral and commodity supply opportunities in Niger, including uranium, gold, gypsum, limestone, tin, and salt.

  • Negotiate procurement and export contracts with mines, producers, and intermediaries.

  • Develop and manage spot and forward trades, hedging strategies, and trading positions.

  • Monitor commodity price movements, regulatory changes, and supply chain dynamics.

  • Oversee export documentation, logistics coordination, and quality assurance.

  • Build and maintain relationships with local authorities, mining stakeholders, and trade associations.

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerien export laws and international trade standards.

  • Track and report P&L, trading positions, and performance metrics to management.


Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Economics, or Business.

  • Advanced qualifications such as a master’s degree or MBA are advantageous.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commodities or minerals trading, preferably in Africa.

  • Experience working in Francophone markets or West Africa is highly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of Niger’s mining sector and export landscape.


Skills & Experience

  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.

  • Strong analytical and market forecasting abilities.

  • Knowledge of commodity pricing, hedging, and trading platforms.

  • Experience in logistics, supply chain, and export documentation.

  • Fluency in French and English is essential.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial modeling tools.

  • Sound knowledge of compliance and trade regulations.
