Seafood and frozen meat sourcing from India is a destination-specific enquiry. Crustaceans, processed seafood, molluscs and frozen bovine products require exact species and processing details, an eligible establishment and a documented cold chain. Wigmore Trading can discuss sourcing and logistics feasibility for legally permitted products and markets.
Specify species and processing
For crustaceans and molluscs, state species, product form, size grading, treatment, glaze where relevant, pack and net content basis. Raw, cooked, processed and shelf-stable products may have different handling and approval requirements.
For frozen bovine meat, identify the actual species, cuts, bone status, processing establishment, intended market and required certifications. Do not use a broad trade category as a substitute for species identity or destination eligibility. Product descriptions must remain consistent throughout the documents.
Verify establishments and approvals
Check the exporter, processor and storage facilities against applicable requirements. MPEDA explains registration categories for Indian seafood exporters and processing entities. Registration alone does not establish approval for every destination or product.
Confirm health, sanitary, veterinary, food-registration and import requirements with the competent authorities. For Nigeria, the official trade portal lists relevant prohibited categories. Eligibility must be assessed before a supply enquiry proceeds, rather than assuming that a cold-chain plan makes an otherwise prohibited import permissible.
Define the cold-chain specification
Use the product’s required storage and transport conditions. Agree loading condition, container preparation, monitoring, handover and procedures for temperature excursions. A refrigerated container booking is only one part of maintaining conditions from processor to receiver.
Plan delays, customs inspection and the receiving facility’s capacity. Record who can decide whether a product affected by an excursion is acceptable. Do not reset a logger or discard temperature records to conceal a problem.
Quality and commercial acceptance
| Area | What to agree |
|---|---|
| Identity | Species, origin, establishment and lot traceability. |
| Quality | Processing, size, net content, testing and shelf-life limits. |
| Transport | Conditions, monitoring, transfer points and contingency arrangements. |
| Claims | Inspection, shortage evidence, excursions and rejection responsibilities. |
Compare quotes on the same net-weight basis, processing form and delivery conditions. Glaze, packing and handling differences can make apparently similar offers unsuitable for direct comparison.
