Solar financing in Nigeria can mean a loan, lease, lease-to-own arrangement, PAYGo product or an energy-service contract. These options can have very different ownership, payment and support conditions. Wigmore Trading can discuss a solar procurement enquiry and help define the information needed to compare an available proposal. A finance keyword does not mean that a particular lending product is currently offered or approved.

Compare the complete obligation. Request the deposit, payment schedule, total payable, fees, ownership position, maintenance scope and exit terms in writing before deciding whether a plan fits your budget.

Understand the structure first

Arrangement Question to resolve
Loan Who lends, what is financed, and what are the repayment and security terms?
Lease or lease-to-own Who owns the system during the term, and how does ownership transfer?
PAYGo What service or equipment remains available when payments are current?
Solar as a service Are you paying for equipment use, energy delivered or a defined service?

Check cost beyond the monthly amount

A low monthly payment can be paired with a large deposit, long term, separate installation fee or ownership payment at the end. Ask for the total payable and a clear schedule of all charges. Identify whether the price is fixed in naira or can change under a currency, inflation or other adjustment clause.

Compare alternatives over the same period and system duty. Include the cost of battery replacement, service visits and insurance where applicable. Do not compare a basic lighting package with a whole-business installation as if they provide the same energy service.

Equipment and service responsibilities

Identify the exact models, usable battery capacity and appliances the system is intended to run. The financing arrangement should not hide an undersized design. Ask what happens if your demand changes and whether expansion affects the payment agreement or warranty.

Clarify who diagnoses faults, how quickly support responds, and who pays for labour, transport and replacement parts. Distinguish equipment warranty from maintenance. A payment plan with a long term can outlast some components unless replacements are explicitly addressed.

Missed payments, exit and ownership

Read the consequences of late payment, early termination and early settlement. Some products may restrict service after nonpayment; others involve repossession or charges. Ask how disputes, equipment removal and personal data are handled. Do not assume ownership transfers automatically after the last ordinary payment.

For businesses, consider landlord permission, site relocation, change of ownership and interruption of trading. Identify whether the contract permits moving the system and who must approve and reinstall it.

Assess affordability using cautious assumptions

Use your actual electricity and fuel records to estimate avoided costs. Test what happens if savings are lower than expected or income is interrupted. A supplier’s optimistic savings chart is not evidence that every instalment will be affordable. Obtain independent financial or legal advice where the commitment warrants it.

Send Wigmore a financing-related enquiry

Tell us the site, required loads, preferred deposit and term, business or household use, and whether you need ownership or a service arrangement. We can discuss the equipment and project scope and any available commercial options. Lender identity, eligibility, approval, rates and terms must be confirmed in the specific offer; no automatic approval or guaranteed finance is promised.

Keep the final decision tied to the required energy service. A payment structure is useful only if the equipment, installation and support can deliver the agreed result.
