Buying refined petroleum from India requires an exact product specification, a credible supply chain and an accepted transport plan. “Refined petroleum” can cover products with different uses, classifications and handling requirements. Wigmore Trading can discuss a commercial sourcing enquiry and the documentation needed to assess its feasibility before a firm supply commitment.
Define the fuel or petroleum product
Identify whether the requirement is for a particular motor fuel, industrial fuel, base material or another petroleum product. Provide the applicable specification and measurable limits. A generic certificate headed “petroleum” does not prove that a cargo is suitable for your equipment or destination market.
Agree quantity units, measurement conditions, tolerances, loading location and delivery point. A price per tonne cannot be compared directly with a price per litre without the correct agreed conversion basis. Ask which charges and quality checks are included.
Verify the seller and documentary chain
Establish the legal seller, the role of any intermediaries and the authority to offer the cargo. Review verifiable business records, supply evidence and the proposed transaction sequence. A copied refinery letter or online tank photograph is not independent evidence of title or available stock.
Define the inspection company, sampling point, laboratory methods and acceptance process. Check how disputes over quality, quantity or delivery will be handled. Documentation should connect the offered product to the cargo actually loaded.
Plan transport and import eligibility
Petroleum cargo requires suitable packaging or a nominated bulk transport arrangement and explicit carrier acceptance. Provide the product safety data and classification to the relevant specialists. Port, terminal, storage and receiving arrangements must fit the actual product and shipment size.
Confirm current Indian export conditions, the destination’s petroleum licensing and product-quality rules, and the importer’s authority before booking. This is not a blanket offer of unrestricted export or a guarantee that a particular grade can enter Nigeria or another market.
Build a usable quotation request
| Requirement | Information to supply |
|---|---|
| Product | Exact grade, specification, intended application and test requirements. |
| Quantity | Trial or contract volume, frequency, measurement basis and tolerance. |
| Delivery | Origin point, receiving terminal, storage and requested commercial terms. |
| Evidence | Seller identity, cargo traceability, inspection and approvals. |
Ask Wigmore to assess the defined sourcing and logistics scope. Price, availability, refinery relationships and delivery commitments are confirmed for the particular offer. A repeat-supply enquiry should include forecast demand and receiving capacity rather than assuming a spot offer can automatically become a long-term contract.
