Talk to us about this service

Trade, import, logistics, sourcing — whatever you're planning, the fastest way to a quote is a WhatsApp message. Our team replies during Lagos business hours.

Your message tells us which page you came from

Takeaway food packaging has to protect the meal, suit the service and arrive in a condition your customer expects. If you are buying food containers or catering disposables in Nigeria, start with the actual food and delivery journey. Wigmore Trading accepts bulk enquiries for restaurant packaging, takeaway containers, cups and related food-service supplies.

Tell us whether you operate a restaurant, bakery, cloud kitchen, café or catering business. Our hospitality supplies service can assess a sourcing schedule based on your menu, quantities, branding and delivery location.

Match the package to the food

Hot, chilled, oily, acidic and dry foods place different demands on packaging. Specify the intended contents, fill temperature, holding time, portion size and how the customer will use the container. Ask for evidence that the particular material is suitable for the intended food contact and conditions.

Do not assume that all food containers are suitable for reheating, freezing or microwave use. Request the manufacturer’s stated limitations and make any customer-facing instructions consistent with them. Product suitability should be assessed for the exact item, including its lid, lining and printing.

Build a packaging schedule

Product Specification to provide
Meal containers Portion volume, compartments, lid type, stacking and transport conditions
Cups and lids Drink type, fill volume, temperature, lid fit and carry arrangement
Bakery packaging Item dimensions, ventilation, grease resistance and presentation
Delivery bags Order size, load, handles, closing method and moisture exposure
Disposables Cutlery, napkins, portion pots and any individually packed items

Test samples with a real order

Fill samples with the intended food and trial the normal packing and delivery process. Check leakage, lid security, stacking, condensation, appearance and how easily the customer can open the pack. A dry display sample does not reveal every operational problem.

Include staff in the trial. A package that is slow to close or difficult to store can affect service speed. Check whether the container fits shelves, delivery bags and order assembly areas, and whether lids can be confused during a busy shift.

Handle branding and labelling carefully

For printed packaging, approve artwork, colours, placement and mandatory information before production. Ask for minimum order quantities, print setup costs, lead times and what happens if the design changes. Keep a signed sample or approved proof as the comparison reference.

Where you sell prepacked foods, check the applicable labelling and regulatory requirements for that product. The NAFDAC food guidelines are a useful starting point for current guidance. Packaging procurement does not replace the food business’s own compliance responsibilities.

Assess environmental claims honestly

“Recyclable”, “biodegradable” and “compostable” describe different things and depend on material and disposal conditions. Ask for evidence for the specific claim and consider collection or processing options actually available to your customers. A material that can technically be recycled may not be accepted in a local collection stream.

Reducing unnecessary components, improving portion fit and avoiding damaged or leaking packs can also reduce waste. Balance material choices with food protection rather than assuming the lightest package always has the best outcome.

Plan stock and landed cost

Compare unit and carton quantities, storage space, lead time, freight and replacement availability. Keep a separate forecast for regular meal service, events and seasonal peaks. For a new outlet, samples and a controlled first order can expose problems before a large stock commitment.

Coordinate packaging with your restaurant startup schedule and online hospitality procurement process. Where you serve food on premises as well, plan reusable crockery and cutlery separately from delivery disposables.

Agree receiving and substitution rules

Check the first delivery against the approved sample, including dimensions, lids, printing and carton quantities. Ask how damaged cartons, incomplete deliveries or an unavailable item will be handled. Any substitute should be evaluated for the same food and service conditions before it is used.

Keep a packaging register showing approved item codes and alternatives. This is particularly useful for multi-outlet businesses where similar-looking containers can create lid mismatches or inconsistent portion presentation. Review actual use and waste before placing the next bulk order.

Request a bulk packaging quotation

Send Wigmore Trading your food types, dimensions or portion sizes, expected monthly quantities, delivery location and required date. Include photographs or samples of existing packs and note any mandatory branding or performance requirements. Ask for sample approval, food-contact documentation, pack counts and delivery terms in the proposal.
