Well intervention vessel hire in Nigeria should begin with the well task and the marine environment. A vessel suitable for carrying equipment is not automatically an intervention vessel, and a vessel charter alone does not supply a complete well-service operation. Wigmore Trading can help organise the sourcing and logistics enquiry around an operator-approved scope.

Decide whether the enquiry is for a vessel, unit or complete service

“Well intervention services” can describe several activities. The operator’s technical team should identify the required method, equipment and interfaces. A well intervention unit leasing request may concern equipment that needs a suitable host vessel or installation; the host and service package must be assessed together.

Identify whether the proposed work involves an offshore installation or a subsea well, and provide the approved programme summary. Avoid ordering a general-purpose vessel first and assuming specialist intervention equipment can simply be added later.

Information needed for an offshore intervention vessel enquiry

  • Project region, water-depth and environmental information available for review.
  • The intended intervention task and operator-approved technical requirements.
  • Required vessel and equipment interfaces, handling needs and accommodation scope.
  • Station-keeping and assurance requirements specified by the competent marine team.
  • Start window, duration, campaign options and mobilisation origin if known.
  • Responsibilities for specialist services, equipment, crew and shore support.

Mark preliminary assumptions clearly. A proposer should identify missing data and technical deviations before offering a firm package. Detailed well information should be exchanged through an agreed, controlled procurement channel.

Vessel capability and equipment compatibility

Ask for the named vessel’s dossier, current class information and relevant inspection and readiness evidence. The operator’s specialists should review the handling systems, deck arrangements, station keeping and other interfaces against the actual task. A broad capacity label is insufficient.

Where dynamic positioning is required, ask for the project-specific class and assurance requirements. DP notation is one element of the review; it is not a guarantee that a vessel is suitable for the intervention. The installed service equipment and personnel are separate parts of the assessment.

Allocate responsibility across the package

The vessel owner, marine operator, intervention contractor and well operator may have different duties. Record who supplies and maintains the vessel, who provides the specialist service, who approves the technical programme and who coordinates interfaces. Include support vessels and shore-base arrangements where required.

A logistics or procurement introduction does not appoint the intermediary as the licensed marine or well-service operator. Ask for the legal contracting entity and current permissions applicable to each proposed scope. Avoid accepting unrelated certificates as proof of authority for the whole package.

Compare charter and service costs separately

Request the vessel rate, intervention equipment or service charges, mobilisation, demobilisation and excluded third-party costs. Clarify standby, preparation, minimum hire, extension options and the start of billing. The cheapest vessel day rate may not produce the lowest complete campaign cost.

Availability should identify the vessel, existing commitments and readiness assumptions. Confirm any maintenance, equipment integration or inspection needed before mobilisation. A vessel being free in a fleet list is not evidence that the proposed intervention package is ready.

How Wigmore can assist

Send the task, region, timing, expected duration and technical brief. State whether you need a vessel sourcing enquiry, intervention unit procurement, supporting supplies or a defined combination. Wigmore can help organise the enquiry and logistics discussion, with the actual provider, equipment, operating permissions and available scope confirmed before commitment.

Before requesting a firm quotation

Can an online guide confirm a rate or available asset?

No. A meaningful offer needs a defined scope, named provider or asset, current availability and commercial validity. Ask for the assumptions, exclusions and acceptance conditions in writing.

What can Wigmore help organise?

Send the procurement gap, location, programme window and approved technical brief. The team can scope sourcing, equipment and logistics requirements and confirm which specialist services can be included. Technical authority and operating responsibilities must be agreed with the named qualified parties.

Check the proposed service provider through NUPRC’s official OGISP portal and confirm the applicable rig and well approvals with the relevant authority.
