Workover rig rental in Nigeria should be based on the remedial work planned for an existing well. It is not simply a smaller version of a new-well drilling enquiry. Wigmore Trading can help organise equipment sourcing and contractor procurement requirements for workover rigs, well-servicing hoists and hydraulic workover units, with the actual scope and availability confirmed for the project.

Workover, servicing and intervention: clarify the task

Workover generally describes substantial maintenance or remedial work on an existing oil or gas well. Well servicing and intervention cover a range of tasks with different equipment needs. The operator’s competent well team should decide the appropriate method and package. A procurement article cannot establish the safe technical approach.

State the well objective and the approved programme rather than asking only for a “well intervention rig”. Different tasks may use a rig, hydraulic workover equipment or other specialist systems. Do not assume that every intervention requires a conventional workover rig.

Compare the equipment categories

Enquiry Information to clarify
Mobile workover rig Site access, dimensions, required capacities and supporting systems
Well-servicing rig or hoist Exact service task, compatible package and crew responsibility
Hydraulic workover unit Approved application, engineered configuration and specialist contractor scope
Offshore intervention package Host installation or vessel interfaces, logistics and technical acceptance

“HWU” commonly refers to a hydraulic workover unit in this context. It should not be confused with a generic hydraulic power unit or power pack. Request the complete equipment description, manufacturer and configuration so suppliers respond to the same requirement.

What to include in a rental request

Prepare the project location, onshore or offshore setting, programme window, anticipated duration and operator-approved scope. Provide the relevant well and completion information through a controlled procurement channel. State the capacities and interfaces your technical team requires, including any limitations that proposed equipment must satisfy.

Ask whether the offer includes crew, inspection, maintenance, spares, transport, ancillary equipment and specialist support. A workover hoist rental does not automatically provide a fully staffed well-servicing operation. Identify who supplies every critical interface.

Hydraulic workover services need a named specialist

If your programme calls for hydraulic workover, request a proposal from a competent contractor for the actual configuration and application. Ask for relevant experience, equipment documentation, current permissions and the proposed technical responsibility. Do not treat the word “hydraulic” as evidence that a package is suitable for a particular pressure or well condition.

Wigmore’s procurement role can help organise the enquiry and supply requirements. It does not imply that Wigmore is the operating HWU contractor, provides well-control engineering or has a unit ready to mobilise without confirmation.

Compare costs and readiness

Separate the hire rate from mobilisation, demobilisation, preparation, standby and excluded consumables or services. Record minimum duration and how downtime or programme changes are treated. Ask what inspection and acceptance evidence is required before the equipment is considered ready.

For availability, obtain a dated response naming the unit, owner or authorised provider, current commitments and preparation needs. An equipment brochure is not a reservation. Verify the relevant current service and operating permissions for the actual work and parties.

Request a workover or well-servicing enquiry

Send the task description, location region, timing, duration and approved equipment brief to Wigmore. State whether you need a bare-equipment enquiry, rig-and-crew package or a specialist contractor proposal. If the work requires an offshore intervention vessel, define that as a separate marine requirement with its own technical and commercial scope.

Before requesting a firm quotation

Can an online guide confirm a rate or available asset?

No. A meaningful offer needs a defined scope, named provider or asset, current availability and commercial validity. Ask for the assumptions, exclusions and acceptance conditions in writing.

What can Wigmore help organise?

Send the procurement gap, location, programme window and approved technical brief. The team can scope sourcing, equipment and logistics requirements and confirm which specialist services can be included. Technical authority and operating responsibilities must be agreed with the named qualified parties.
