Biogas, biomass briquettes, fuel pellets and thermal waste treatment are different technologies. They cannot be compared meaningfully under a single promise to “turn any waste into energy.” The first decision is which process is suitable for the material and the energy customer.
Wigmore Trading welcomes procurement enquiries for biogas and biomass equipment in Nigeria and Africa. Share your feasibility work and approved project requirements so sourcing, equipment interfaces and logistics can be assessed.
Match the route to the feedstock
| Route | Questions to establish |
|---|---|
| Anaerobic digestion | Suitable organic inputs, variability, process design and digestate management |
| Briquetting or pelletising | Biomass type, moisture, preparation and fuel-buyer specification |
| Thermal conversion | Feedstock characteristics, emissions control, permits and residual handling |
A machine catalogue is not a substitute for a feedstock assessment. Contamination and changing material quality can affect operation and output. Establish reliable supply agreements before sizing a plant around material that may not consistently be available.
Define the energy use and customer
State whether energy will serve process heat, an on-site facility or a separately approved power project. Identify demand patterns and the interfaces required. A predicted energy yield should be supported by an appropriate engineering assessment of representative feedstock, not a generic vendor figure.
For briquettes and pellets, obtain the intended customer’s fuel-quality requirements. Include packaging, storage, transport and rejected product in the commercial model.
Account for the whole installation
A biogas project can include reception, pretreatment, digestion, gas handling, utilisation and digestate management. Biomass fuel production can require drying, size reduction, densification and product handling. Establish the battery limits and interfaces of each supplier’s package.
Gas, pressure, combustible dust and hot processes require competent design and appropriate safeguards. Procurement should request the approved technical scope and documentation rather than improvising operating instructions.
Plan approvals and operating responsibilities
Review land use, environmental requirements, utilities, fire protection and residual management with the appropriate authorities and technical advisers. Refer to the applicable NESREA regulations and destination-specific requirements for regional projects.
Identify who operates the facility, provides training, services critical equipment and monitors performance. A plant requires a sustained operating capability, not only commissioning attendance.
Test the investment assumptions
Separate capital equipment, site works, utilities, transport, staffing, maintenance and working capital. Include feedstock collection, downtime and the cost of managing by-products. Model conservative output and sales assumptions before relying on a payback estimate.
Request supplier references, performance conditions and an agreed acceptance plan. Any financing or funding support must be assessed separately; equipment sourcing does not guarantee investment approval.
Can waste-to-energy eliminate every disposal cost?
No. Rejected inputs, residues and maintenance waste may still require appropriate management.
What is needed for an equipment enquiry?
Provide feedstock type and quantity, representative analysis where available, intended energy use, site, feasibility status and installation scope. Wigmore can assess suitable procurement options against that brief.
Prepare your equipment enquiry
Note the intended application, delivery location, quantities, target dates and required support. Include an approved specification or describe the work the equipment must perform. Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions and identify the person responsible for technical acceptance.
This checklist helps you prepare a brief; it does not submit information. Start with non-confidential project details. Do not include patient or student records, credentials or private financial documents in a general sales enquiry.
