Waste collection equipment should fit the route, the waste and the receiving facility. A large refuse truck may be unsuitable for narrow estate roads, while a bin selected without checking the lifting system may not work with the collection vehicle.

Wigmore Trading supports procurement enquiries for waste bins, collection vehicles, compactors and related equipment in Nigeria and African markets. We help buyers define a consistent specification and assess sourcing, delivery and support options.

Start with the collection service

Describe the customers, waste streams, collection frequency and route distances. Include access restrictions, loading points, road conditions and the location of the receiving facility. Distinguish household, commercial, industrial and separately collected recyclable material.

Equipment Compatibility to check
Wheelie and communal bins Capacity, materials, lids, handling and lifting interface
Refuse collection vehicle Chassis, body, lifting system, payload and route access
Stationary compactor Waste stream, power, container exchange and collection access
Smart-bin system Sensors, communications, software ownership and maintenance

Specify usable capacity and payload

Volume and weight are different limits. Dense waste can reach a vehicle’s legal payload before filling the body. Define the actual material and ask the technical team to assess the complete vehicle configuration and permitted operation.

For bins, consider handling, cleaning, drainage where appropriate and resistance to the intended environment. A nominal litre rating does not establish durability or lifting compatibility.

Check the chassis and body as one package

For a refuse truck, request chassis and body details, condition, axle and weight information, lifting equipment and included accessories. If purchasing used equipment, obtain inspection and service evidence and define acceptance criteria.

Identify the party responsible for body integration, hydraulic and electrical systems, documentation and after-sales support. A warranty on one component may not cover faults at the interface with another supplier’s equipment.

Plan maintenance and operator readiness

Ask about filters, seals, wear components, hydraulic support and locally serviceable chassis parts. Include training, safety documentation and maintenance access. Qualified staff should establish operating procedures, inspection requirements and safe loading arrangements.

For a fleet, use a consistent asset register and spare-parts plan. Consider phased purchasing where route demand is still being established rather than committing to capacity without reliable collection contracts.

Include the receiving end

Confirm unloading arrangements and accepted streams at the authorised receiving facility. Collection equipment is only one part of an appropriate waste-management chain. Check the applicable environmental requirements and relevant state arrangements.

Compare delivered cost, clearance, local transport, commissioning, training and maintenance. Ask how long the offer is valid and which accessories or site works are excluded.

Does a smart bin replace route planning?

No. Sensor information is useful only when it connects to a practical collection and maintenance workflow.

How do I request a quote?

Send the waste type, required quantities, route and access details, preferred vehicle or bin configuration, location and target delivery date. Wigmore can assess suitable supply options.

Prepare your equipment enquiry

Note the intended application, delivery location, quantities, target dates and required support. Include an approved specification or describe the work the equipment must perform. Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions and identify the person responsible for technical acceptance.

This checklist helps you prepare a brief; it does not submit information. Start with non-confidential project details. Do not include patient or student records, credentials or private financial documents in a general sales enquiry.
