Electronic waste and scrap metal are not single uniform materials. A collection of computers, cables, appliances and mixed scrap can contain valuable fractions alongside components that need specialist handling. Selecting a shredder without defining the incoming stream is a poor starting point.

Wigmore Trading supports equipment-sourcing enquiries for e-waste and scrap-processing projects in Nigeria and Africa. We help buyers clarify material specifications, equipment boundaries and delivery needs. Processing authorisation and operating competence must be established separately.

Define what you will accept

List the product categories, expected quantities and contamination. Distinguish reuse or refurbishment from dismantling and material recovery. Decide which materials the facility will exclude or send directly to an appropriate specialist.

Stream Planning requirement
IT equipment Reuse assessment, data-bearing assets and controlled dismantling
Mixed electronics Depollution, segregation and approved downstream routes
Cables and selected fractions Feedstock-specific separation and output quality
Metal scrap Material identification, size, handling and buyer specification

Resolve hazardous components before size reduction

Potentially hazardous components require an appropriate handling and removal process. Batteries, refrigerants and other controlled materials should not be treated as ordinary mixed shredder feed. A qualified technical and environmental team should define depollution and safe processing.

Review the relevant NESREA regulations, including those applicable to electrical and electronic equipment and metal-related operations. Confirm the authorisations and downstream responsibilities for the actual facility.

Specify outputs and downstream buyers

Identify the fractions you intend to sell, their accepted quality and the organisations able to receive them. A dismantling line does not necessarily produce a refined commodity. Some outputs will need further specialist treatment.

Include records of incoming materials, recovered fractions and residuals. Where computers or other data-bearing equipment are involved, establish a separate documented data-erasure or destruction requirement approved by the asset owner.

Design the equipment package

Depending on the approved process, the package may include workstations, handling equipment, shredding, separation, extraction, baling and storage. Define feed size, composition and capacity conditions so offers are comparable.

Ask the engineer to establish guarding, dust and noise control, fire precautions and safe maintenance access. Request evidence that the proposed machine is suitable for the specific materials; a general-purpose crusher is not an automatic substitute.

Evaluate operating and commercial support

Consider wear parts, blades, tools, controls, power requirements and service access. Agree training, installation and acceptance criteria. Include the cost of appropriate handling for unsaleable or hazardous fractions in the business case.

For imported equipment, establish freight, clearance, unloading and installation responsibilities. A quoted factory price should not be mistaken for the complete operating-facility cost.

Can the same line process all scrap?

No. Suitability depends on the exact feedstock and process. Define the intended stream before selecting equipment.

What should I send Wigmore?

Provide material categories, photographs, expected volumes, output buyers, project location and regulatory-readiness status. We can assess sourcing options against an appropriately defined scope.

Prepare your equipment enquiry

Note the intended application, delivery location, quantities, target dates and required support. Include an approved specification or describe the work the equipment must perform. Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions and identify the person responsible for technical acceptance.

This checklist helps you prepare a brief; it does not submit information. Start with non-confidential project details. Do not include patient or student records, credentials or private financial documents in a general sales enquiry.
