A restaurant, produce market and agricultural processor generate different organic waste streams. A useful composting proposal starts with those differences, including contamination, water content, collection frequency and the intended use of the finished material.

Wigmore Trading supports sourcing enquiries for organic-waste processing, shredders and composting equipment in Nigeria and other African markets. We help buyers define a practical equipment brief and assess supply and logistics requirements.

Characterise the organic waste

Record the daily quantity, sources, seasonal peaks and non-organic contamination. Separate packaging, glass, metals and unsuitable materials before deciding what equipment is required. Ask a competent process adviser to establish the intended biological process and material preparation.

Project stage Requirement to specify
Collection and reception Segregation, containers, weighing and contamination checks
Preparation Shredding, mixing and appropriate bulking inputs
Processing Capacity, process monitoring, odour and leachate management
Finishing Maturation, screening, testing and product storage

Understand what the machine actually produces

Some devices reduce moisture or volume quickly, while a composting process requires appropriate biological treatment and assessment of the output. Do not assume that dried or shredded food waste is immediately mature compost suitable for sale or crop application.

Ask the supplier to explain the process, residence time, monitoring and any further treatment needed. Confirm the claims against your actual feedstock and the quality requirements for the intended end use.

Choose a manageable operating scale

A hotel’s on-site waste project may prioritise clean segregation, compact footprint and predictable operation. A market-waste facility may require reception space, vehicle access and a larger processing area. Compare working capacity under normal conditions, not only the largest input the machine can physically hold.

Identify labour, utilities, maintenance and the storage area required between process stages. Collection frequency and processing capacity need to work together; a processing machine does not solve an unreliable collection system.

Plan environmental controls and offtake

Review drainage, odour, pests, leachate and neighbouring land uses with the responsible environmental professionals. Check applicable site approvals and environmental regulations. Product testing and any requirements for marketing the output must be established before presenting it as a commercial fertiliser.

Confirm potential users, quality expectations and transport cost. An apparent waste-to-value project still needs a realistic route for finished material and rejected contamination.

Ask for a complete quotation

Include reception equipment, preparation, processing, monitoring, finishing, installation and training. Establish warranty scope, wear parts and support. Request a clearly defined demonstration or acceptance process using representative feedstock where appropriate.

Can any food waste go into a composter?

No. Suitability depends on the process, equipment design and controls. Define accepted and excluded inputs with the qualified process team.

Can Wigmore quote a community project?

Send the location, daily feedstock, available site, intended output and budget framework. We can assess procurement options for a phased or complete package without promising a universal processing time or financial return.

Prepare your equipment enquiry

Note the intended application, delivery location, quantities, target dates and required support. Include an approved specification or describe the work the equipment must perform. Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions and identify the person responsible for technical acceptance.

This checklist helps you prepare a brief; it does not submit information. Start with non-confidential project details. Do not include patient or student records, credentials or private financial documents in a general sales enquiry.
