Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Chemicals Trader to join our dynamic team in Lagos, Nigeria. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, buying, and selling industrial and specialty chemicals to manufacturers, distributors, and end-users across various sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, food processing, oil & gas, and manufacturing.

The Chemicals Trader will play a key role in identifying new market opportunities, negotiating contracts, managing supplier and client relationships, and ensuring efficient supply chain operations. The successful candidate must have a strong network in the chemical trading industry, a deep understanding of market trends, and the ability to drive profitable sales growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities for chemical trading across various industries in Nigeria.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to ensure a reliable supply chain.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms with suppliers and buyers to maximize profitability.
  • Monitor global and local chemical market trends, pricing fluctuations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate logistics, import/export documentation, and ensure compliance with local and international trade regulations.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including finance, logistics, and compliance, to streamline trading operations.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue and profit targets.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of chemical properties, applications, and market demand.
  • Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations in chemical trading.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business, or a related field. An MBA is an advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in chemical trading, distribution, or sales, preferably within Nigeria or West Africa.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial and specialty chemicals, including applications, regulations, and sourcing strategies.
  • Network & Relationships: Established connections with manufacturers, suppliers, and industrial buyers in Nigeria and globally.
  • Business Acumen: Proven track record of sales growth, contract negotiation, and trade execution.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Nigerian import/export regulations, NAFDAC & SON approvals, and global chemical trade policies.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze market trends, pricing structures, and supply chain logistics.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM software, and trading platforms.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive business growth.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Membership in relevant industry associations such as Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) or Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with commodity and specialty chemical pricing indices.
  • Experience in international trade, logistics, and customs clearance.

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Compensation: Competitive salary plus performance-based commission and benefits.
