Wigmore Trading is a fast-growing company operating across multiple sectors including infrastructure, logistics, commodities, and technology services across Africa.

As part of our expansion strategy, Wigmore Trading is launching an agricultural machinery and farm equipment platform focused on improving productivity and reducing post-harvest losses across Nigeria’s farming sector.

The initiative aims to help farmers and agricultural businesses access affordable mechanisation tools including irrigation pumps, processing equipment, and small tractors, enabling higher yields and improved food supply chains.


Role Summary

The Head of Agricultural Machinery & Farm Equipment will lead the development and growth of Wigmore Trading’s farm mechanisation and agricultural equipment platform.

The role focuses on providing farmers and agricultural enterprises with affordable irrigation systems, crop processing machines, and mechanised farm equipment that improve productivity and reduce post-harvest losses.

This position requires a professional with strong experience in agricultural equipment, agribusiness supply chains, farm mechanisation, or agricultural infrastructure development.


Key Responsibilities

Business & Strategy Development

  • Develop the strategy for Wigmore Trading’s agricultural machinery and farm equipment platform.

  • Identify opportunities to deploy irrigation pumps, crop processing machines, and mechanised farming equipment.

  • Design scalable models for equipment sales, leasing, and farm equipment rental services.

Equipment Deployment & Distribution

  • Lead the deployment of farm equipment including irrigation systems, tractors, threshers, and processing machines.

  • Build distribution channels that reach farmers, cooperatives, and agricultural enterprises.

  • Develop local assembly or sourcing partnerships for agricultural machinery.

Agricultural Partnerships

  • Build partnerships with farmer cooperatives, agricultural development programs, and agribusiness companies.

  • Work with agricultural extension programs and development organisations to increase adoption of mechanised farming tools.

  • Support farmers with training on equipment usage and maintenance.

Farm Productivity Solutions

  • Develop solutions that improve crop processing, irrigation efficiency, and post-harvest handling.

  • Implement programs that support farmers with equipment financing and rental options.

  • Promote technologies that increase yields and reduce labour intensity.

Operations & Platform Management

  • Build and manage teams covering equipment sales, field operations, and technical support.

  • Implement systems for equipment servicing, spare parts distribution, and maintenance support.

  • Monitor operational performance and customer satisfaction across the platform.


Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or related field.

Experience

  • 7–10 years of experience in agricultural equipment distribution, agribusiness operations, or farm mechanisation programs.

  • Experience working with farmer cooperatives, agricultural supply chains, or agricultural equipment providers.

  • Experience managing agricultural infrastructure or equipment deployment projects.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of farm mechanisation technologies and agricultural supply chains.

  • Experience managing rural distribution networks and agricultural service platforms.

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability.

  • Ability to build partnerships with agricultural institutions and farming communities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with agricultural equipment manufacturers or agritech companies.

  • Familiarity with agricultural development programs and rural financing models.

  • Experience launching scalable agricultural service platforms.
