A clinic expanding its services may need equipment before it can comfortably fund a full purchase. Leasing, rental and managed-device proposals can spread or reshape costs, but they have different ownership, service and financial implications. The right comparison starts with the actual contract.
Wigmore Trading welcomes equipment procurement and commercial-structure enquiries in Nigeria and Africa. Share your project and preferred arrangement so available supply and partner options can be assessed. Financing approval, rental stock and particular payment terms are not automatic or guaranteed.
Understand the different arrangements
| Option | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Outright purchase | Upfront cost, ownership, warranty and ongoing support |
| Rental | Minimum term, availability, servicing and return conditions |
| Finance or operating lease | Payment schedule, ownership treatment, security and end-of-term terms |
| Managed device or service package | Included equipment, consumables, maintenance and usage commitments |
“Device as a service” is a commercial description, not a standard promise. Define precisely what is included, which party owns the asset and who is accountable when it is unavailable.
Build the business case around realistic demand
Estimate workload using your service plan rather than optimistic assumptions. Include consumables, reagents, staff, utilities, maintenance and periods when equipment may be unavailable. For laboratory and radiology projects, assess the whole facility-ready cost, not only the monthly equipment payment.
Compare proposals over the same period and usage assumptions. Identify deposits, documentation charges, taxes, insurance, foreign-currency exposure and final payments. Ask your financial and legal advisers to review material obligations before signing.
Specify service and replacement responsibilities
A finance arrangement does not necessarily include maintenance. Establish preventive service, corrective repair, parts, consumables, software and training separately. Confirm whether substitute equipment is offered during a failure and the conditions attached.
For equipment placed against a reagent or consumable commitment, examine minimum purchases, pricing adjustments, expiry risk and termination consequences. A low initial equipment charge can carry significant ongoing obligations.
Check equipment condition and documentation
Request exact model, configuration, condition and service history where applicable. Refurbished systems need clear acceptance criteria and support evidence. Applicable device and facility requirements still apply regardless of how the purchase is funded.
For imported equipment, define delivery, clearance, installation and risk transfer. Identify the party responsible for insurance and damage during transport, use and return.
Prepare a comparable enquiry
Include the device specification, intended clinical use, facility location, target commissioning date and anticipated usage. State the preferred term and whether you need equipment only or a supported package. At the initial stage, a general project brief is enough; do not send bank credentials, patient records or unnecessary sensitive documents.
Can every medical device be rented?
No. Rental availability depends on the asset, condition, location, service model and provider. A sourcing enquiry establishes what is feasible.
Can Wigmore guarantee financing?
No. Any finance offer depends on the provider’s assessment and agreed terms. We can discuss procurement requirements and help clarify the commercial options available for the project.
Prepare your equipment enquiry
Note the intended application, delivery location, quantities, target dates and required support. Include an approved specification or describe the work the equipment must perform. Separate confirmed requirements from assumptions and identify the person responsible for technical acceptance.
This checklist helps you prepare a brief; it does not submit information. Start with non-confidential project details. Do not include patient or student records, credentials or private financial documents in a general sales enquiry.
