If you are comparing a payment API or payment SDK in Nigeria, start with the operations your application must perform. Taking a payment, creating an invoice, initiating a transfer and managing a wallet are different capabilities. A useful developer evaluation checks the complete lifecycle, not simply whether a sample payment succeeds.

Wigmore Trading accepts enquiries for payment integration planning and implementation scope. Share your application architecture, target channels and existing provider documentation so the team can assess the work required. This guide is a development checklist; access to a particular sandbox, SDK or production API must be confirmed with its provider.

Distinguish the API, SDK and payment service

An API exposes operations to your system. An SDK packages integration tools for supported languages or platforms. The underlying payment service has its own merchant eligibility, channel availability and operational terms. A mobile money SDK does not by itself establish that your business can issue wallets or hold customer funds.

List required operations: initiate and verify payments, receive notifications, request refunds, query transactions and export reports. For wallet or transfer projects, include the additional account, balance, beneficiary and approval requirements.

Evaluate the documentation before committing

Ask for current authentication guidance, versioning policy, request and response definitions, error meanings and supported environments. Confirm rate limits, pagination, timeouts, reference requirements and the process for breaking changes. Check which SDK versions are maintained and which platforms they support.

Good documentation should explain uncertain and incomplete states as well as success. Ask how support will investigate a problem using a safe correlation reference without requiring secret keys or unnecessary personal information.

Build a sandbox test plan

Scenario Evidence to collect
Normal payment Order reference, provider reference, final status and expected amount
Interrupted journey How the app recovers when a user closes or loses connection
Repeated notification One fulfilment despite receiving the same event more than once
Uncertain response Status investigation without blindly initiating another debit
Refund or transfer Permissions, supported states and reconciliation records

Keep trusted verification on the server

Do not treat the customer-facing callback as the final accounting record. Use the provider’s documented verification and event-handling process, and compare the relevant reference, amount, currency and transaction result before fulfilling an order.

As an example of provider-specific guidance, Paystack’s verification documentation distinguishes the result of an API request from the underlying transaction status. Your implementation must follow the provider you actually contract with; examples do not establish a Wigmore partnership or identical behaviour across platforms.

Handle webhooks and duplicate events

Establish how notifications are authenticated, recorded and processed. Make the business operation safe when an event is delivered again or arrives after another status update. Keep a clear link between your internal order and provider references.

The Paystack webhook documentation illustrates event-origin verification and asynchronous updates. Confirm the exact signature method, payload handling and retry behaviour in the current documentation for your chosen service.

Separate testing from production

Use distinct credentials and configuration for each environment. Keep secrets out of public client code, shared screenshots and support messages. Limit access by role and record how credentials are rotated and revoked.

Sandbox behaviour may not reproduce production limits, bank responses or settlement timing. Plan a controlled launch approved by the responsible provider and business owners. Agree what evidence confirms readiness and what happens if a launch check fails.

Prepare the handover and support package

Deliver architecture notes, configuration ownership, test results, monitoring requirements and an incident guide. Finance teams need reporting and reconciliation instructions, while customer support needs a way to distinguish pending, failed and completed transactions.

Include maintenance, version upgrades and provider changes in the scope. The reliability guide and reconciliation guide help turn a working integration into an operable service.

Send a developer integration brief

Tell Wigmore Trading your stack, mobile platforms, ecommerce software, provider choices, transaction types and required launch date. Include links to public documentation and a redacted workflow description. Do not send live credentials. We can assess discovery, implementation, testing and support requirements and clarify the capabilities available for the proposed project.
