An online checkout in Nigeria needs to help customers complete payment and help your business fulfil the right order. The best design depends on what you sell, how customers reach you and which payment methods your contracted provider supports. A website, mobile app and multi-vendor marketplace can need different workflows.

Wigmore Trading can assess payment integration enquiries for digital commerce projects. Send your current store or app, the customer journey and the problems you want to solve. The team can discuss implementation scope, provider dependencies and the evidence needed before launch.

Choose hosted or embedded checkout deliberately

A hosted checkout sends the customer to a provider-managed payment experience. Embedded checkout places supported payment components within your own journey. Compare customer experience, technical effort, accessibility, device behaviour and the division of security responsibilities.

Do not choose on appearance alone. Confirm which channels work in the proposed format, how authentication is handled and what happens when the customer leaves or returns. A native mobile SDK and a web-based checkout may not offer the same features.

Keep orders and transactions distinct

Create an order record with a stable reference and track payment attempts against it. An abandoned attempt should not erase the order or make a later confirmed payment impossible to match. If a customer chooses another channel, retain the history needed to investigate both attempts.

Define when inventory is reserved, when the customer sees confirmation and when fulfilment begins. Your server should use trusted transaction evidence from the provider before marking an order paid. A screenshot or a browser success message is not a substitute for that verification.

Design for mobile and interrupted journeys

Test common screen sizes, slower connections and customers switching between a banking app and your checkout. Make the amount, currency, merchant identity and order summary clear before payment. Give users a way to find the order again after an interruption.

Pending, failed and cancelled states need useful wording and a support route. Avoid telling a customer to pay again while the first attempt is unresolved. The payment reliability guide covers safer retry and recovery decisions.

Write a checkout acceptance checklist

Area What to test
Order accuracy Price, discounts, delivery, tax treatment and currency remain consistent
Payment evidence Server verification and correct matching to the order
Customer recovery Interrupted, abandoned and pending journeys
Operations Refunds, partial fulfilment, support references and settlement matching
Access Mobile usability, clear labels and supported assistive interactions

Account for marketplace money flows

A marketplace needs a clear agreement on who sells to the customer, who receives funds, how commissions are recorded and when vendors are paid. Technical split-payment features do not settle those commercial or regulatory questions.

Map cancellations, returns, disputes and negative adjustments before launch. Ask whether vendor onboarding and payout controls are included in the proposed service. Use the payout planning guide to specify approval and reconciliation requirements.

Coordinate checkout with business systems

Identify the system responsible for products, orders, customer records, invoices and accounting. Confirm how status updates reach each system and how exceptions are handled. Plugins can reduce development effort, but their version support and maintenance still need review.

For ecommerce platforms, ask which changes require custom development and which are configuration. For SaaS or membership products, coordinate the checkout with subscription billing so access and payment status do not drift apart.

Clarify security and support responsibilities

Request a review of the actual card-data flow and the security obligations relevant to the chosen arrangement. Hosted components may change scope, but do not automatically remove every merchant responsibility. Our KYC, privacy and payment compliance guide lists evidence to request.

Agree support ownership for checkout errors, transaction enquiries, refunds and integration incidents. Customers should not have to guess whether to contact your store, developer or payment provider.

Request a checkout implementation discussion

Send Wigmore Trading your website or app link, platform version, required payment methods, average and peak order volumes, delivery model and launch timetable. Include the current checkout problem and the systems that need to connect. We can assess the brief and clarify discovery, integration, testing and handover options.
