An acquisition is not operationally complete when the ownership documents are signed. Teams, systems, customers and reporting still need a practical transition plan. Integration should protect business continuity while testing which changes genuinely support the acquisition objective.
Wigmore Trading welcomes integration-planning and business-transition enquiries in Nigeria. We can discuss commercial, operational and project-coordination needs. The actual team, deliverables, access and specialist responsibilities are confirmed in the engagement.
Define day-one readiness
Identify who can make decisions, pay suppliers, manage staff, serve customers and maintain essential systems immediately after completion. Distinguish what must be ready on day one from later improvement projects. Confirm the legal point at which changes are permitted.
| Workstream | Early planning questions |
|---|---|
| Finance | Authority, banking, controls, reporting and opening balances |
| People and culture | Roles, communications, retention and employment review |
| Technology | Access, continuity, data, licences and controlled migration |
| Operations and customers | Suppliers, service levels, brand and delivery continuity |
Build a realistic 100-day plan
A 100-day plan is a management horizon, not a promise that all integration will finish in that period. Assign actions, owners, dependencies and evidence of completion. Prioritise risks and business continuity over an arbitrary list of quick changes.
Establish an integration management office or clear coordination structure appropriate to the scale. Track decisions, issues and escalation rather than relying on informal updates.
Test synergies and costs
Separate cost savings, revenue opportunities, one-off costs and continuing investment. Record the baseline and the person responsible for each assumption. Avoid counting the same benefit in several workstreams or treating an announcement as realised savings.
Assess whether a change could harm customers, staff, supplier relationships or compliance. Synergy estimates should be reviewed as evidence develops, not protected from challenge because they supported the original bid.
Manage systems and data carefully
Review access rights, cybersecurity, data ownership, software licences and migration plans with appropriate specialists. Do not combine live systems before the required legal, operational and security conditions are satisfied.
Maintain backups, testing, rollback and user-support arrangements appropriate to the project. A technology-integration label should not conceal unclear responsibility for data quality or continuity.
Agree transition services and handover
A seller may temporarily provide finance, IT, premises or other services. Define scope, charges, service levels, duration and exit arrangements through appropriate documents. Seller transition support is not automatically included in the purchase price.
Review progress against outcomes: reliable service, accurate reporting, retained customers and controlled change. Some businesses may need limited integration rather than immediate full consolidation.
Can Wigmore guarantee the expected synergies?
No. Benefits depend on execution and business conditions. The engagement should define what can be managed and measured.
What should I send?
Provide sector, transaction stage, sites, operating model and the main transition concerns. Sensitive employee, customer and system information should follow an agreed access process.
Prepare a non-confidential enquiry
Note your role, business sector, jurisdictions, transaction stage, target dates and the decision you need help with. State what is confirmed and what remains an assumption. Identify who is authorised to give instructions.
Do not send confidential deal documents, private banking or identity information, medical records or employee data through a general sales enquiry. Agree scope, confidentiality and access first. This checklist does not submit information.
