Corporate FX Execution and Hedging in Nigeria: Enquiry Preparation Guide

Talk to us about this service

Trade, import, logistics, sourcing — whatever you're planning, the fastest way to a quote is a WhatsApp message. Our team replies during Lagos business hours.

Your message tells us which page you came from

A corporate FX enquiry needs a defined commercial purpose, currencies, timing and authorised provider. Importers, exporters and other institutions should distinguish currency conversion from a hedging contract or an investment strategy. Wigmore Trading can help scope commercial sourcing and logistics information relevant to an enquiry. This page does not offer currency dealing, money transfer, FX execution or a hedging product through Wigmore.

Describe the underlying exposure

Identify the business transaction, expected currency amounts, payment or receipt dates and information still uncertain. Separate confirmed obligations from forecasts. Ask qualified financial advisers and the authorised provider to assess the appropriate arrangement. A website article cannot determine the suitability of a forward, swap, option, futures contract or non-deliverable forward for your business.

Requirement Question to resolve
Spot conversion Who is the authorised counterparty and what documentation is required?
Forward or other hedge What obligations, costs, risks and eligibility apply to the actual contract?
Quotation What pair, amount, settlement date, fees and validity does it cover?
Settlement Which accounts, confirmations and verification controls are required?
Risk reporting How are exposure, valuation and changes reviewed by authorised staff?

Verify the FX role and current requirements

The CBN’s published NFEM guidelines address authorised dealers and participation. Its reforms information provides further context on market arrangements. Have qualified advisers confirm current applicability and provider permissions for the specific transaction. A general financial-services registration or a technology platform is not proof of FX dealing authority.

A reference rate is not a guaranteed execution rate

A closing or official benchmark describes a defined calculation or observation. It should not be advertised as a price automatically available for every customer transaction. Request a dated provider quote showing the actual currency pair, amount, value date and charges. USD/NGN, EUR/NGN, GBP/NGN and cross-currency requirements can have different terms and availability.

Understand hedging obligations before committing

A hedge can alter risk rather than eliminate it. Review the underlying exposure, contract documentation, potential cash-flow consequences, valuation and termination terms with qualified professionals. Changes in the commercial transaction may leave a mismatch. Do not assume that a product called a swap, forward or futures contract is available to every client or can be cancelled without cost.

Electronic and institutional service claims

Streaming prices, request-for-quote systems and execution algorithms are provider-specific capabilities. Confirm current access, supported instruments and approved user permissions. An outsourced FX desk or white-label interface does not remove the principal institution’s duties or grant the intermediary a licence. Keep dealing instructions within the authorised provider’s agreed process.

Operational safeguards

Verify counterparties and payment instructions independently, identify authorised contacts and reconcile confirmations. Agree how errors, failed settlement and disputes are handled. Confidential positions and bank information should move only through approved channels. Procurement discussions should use redacted requirements rather than live instructions or credentials.

Discuss the commercial support required

Send Wigmore a non-sensitive summary of the goods or service transaction, markets, dates and sourcing or logistics gap. We can clarify available business-support scope and specialist dependencies. We do not quote a live exchange rate on this page, accept FX orders or promise a locked rate or a particular hedging outcome.

Discuss your preparatory support requirement

Send a non-confidential brief with your organisation’s role, market or commodity, research or procurement needs and dates. Wigmore can clarify available business-support scope and specialist dependencies. Regulated work must remain with appropriately authorised providers.
