A trading desk or market-making programme needs an authorised operating model before software, staffing or a white-label service is selected. The organisation should define its market, instruments, client role and decision authority. Wigmore Trading accepts preparatory commercial research, procurement and coordination enquiries. This page does not establish a managed trading desk, regulated outsourcing service or market-maker appointment through Wigmore.

Define the desk and service boundary

Separate agency execution, principal dealing, market-making, treasury operations and technology support. State which legal entity contracts, holds assets, takes risk and handles clients. An outsourced, managed or trading-as-a-service label does not remove regulatory responsibilities. Qualified legal and compliance advisers should assess permissions and what may actually be delegated.

Workstream Design question
Authority Which entity, functions, venues and instruments are approved?
People Who may instruct, trade, approve changes and review exceptions?
Technology Which order, risk, reporting and reconciliation systems are needed?
Controls How are limits, conflicts, access and incidents governed?
Evidence What records support oversight and programme evaluation?

Design the liquidity scheme around lawful objectives

An issuer-sponsored or exchange liquidity programme should identify the eligible instrument, provider obligations and applicable appointment process. Define the evidence of the market problem and how outcomes will be reviewed. Programme design must not aim to create misleading prices, artificial volume or hidden conflicts. A contract with a third party does not substitute for a required market appointment.

Trading-desk technology and operational setup

Map the workflow from authorised instruction to confirmation, settlement and reconciliation. Identify data sources, system interfaces, access controls and recovery arrangements. Ask which functions are built in and which need custom integration. A dashboard, algorithm or white-label portal alone is not a complete operating desk or permission to execute financial transactions.

Execution analytics and benchmarks

Pre-trade analysis and post-trade transaction-cost analysis should use defined sources, timestamps, costs and benchmarks. Arrival price, VWAP, TWAP and implementation-shortfall measures answer different questions. Agree the purpose and limits of each comparison with qualified professionals. A result better than one benchmark does not establish that all execution duties were met or guarantee future performance.

Governance for automation

Where algorithms are proposed, define approved use, testing, access, change control, monitoring and a safe stop or escalation process. Confirm venue and provider support rather than assuming global product names are available locally. Preserve accountable human oversight. This guide does not provide a trading algorithm, risk-limit recommendation or instructions for manipulative conduct.

Outsourcing and commercial terms

Request the provider’s status, actual scope, subcontractors, conflicts, data rights, fees and exit arrangements. Retain clarity over regulatory reporting, client confidentiality and operational incidents. Office location in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt does not establish professional authority. Verify the relevant operator function through the SEC register and current venue records.

Prepare an operating-model enquiry

Send Wigmore your organisation’s role, markets, planned functions, existing systems, research needs and dates. We can clarify the available preparatory, procurement and coordination scope and specialist dependencies. Do not send live orders, confidential strategies, account credentials or funds. A discovery discussion does not create an execution mandate, outsourcing approval or liquidity commitment.

Extend the programme into operational controls

A trading-business plan needs a function-specific registration assessment, realistic operating budget and named control owners. Compare the new operational guides below before choosing systems or setting implementation dates. Software access does not confer a market permission, and a business plan does not establish achievable returns.

Discuss your preparatory support requirement

Send a non-confidential brief with your organisation’s role, market or commodity, research or procurement needs and dates. Wigmore can clarify available business-support scope and specialist dependencies. Regulated work must remain with appropriately authorised providers.
