An institutional equity execution enquiry should define the market, securities, mandate and operating requirements before comparing brokers. Pension funds, asset managers, insurers, family offices and foreign investors can have different eligibility and governance constraints. Wigmore Trading accepts preparatory commercial-research and provider-enquiry coordination requests. This page does not offer securities execution, investment advice or a trading account through Wigmore.

Prepare the mandate and provider brief

Describe the organisation’s role, intended market, reporting needs and authorised procurement process. Distinguish a provider-selection exercise from an order to buy or sell shares. Actual instructions must use the chosen authorised provider’s approved channels. Verify the legal entity, registered function and relevant venue access through the SEC register and applicable exchange records.

Requirement Question for the qualified provider
Listed-share access Which securities, markets and client categories are supported?
Block or negotiated transaction What venue rules, eligibility, approvals and reporting apply?
Portfolio or basket execution How are instructions, partial outcomes and allocations controlled?
Foreign-investor access Which onboarding, custody, settlement and currency arrangements are required?
Reporting What confirmations, costs, benchmarks and exceptions will be provided?

Large trades and confidentiality

Block trades, cross trades and off-market transactions need an applicable legal and venue process. Ask how the proposed provider manages conflicts, permissions and reporting. Confidential handling does not mean exemption from required disclosure or oversight. Do not infer that an anonymous route, dark pool or crossing network is available in Nigeria simply because a global broker uses the term.

Electronic access and execution algorithms

Direct or sponsored market access, smart routing and auction participation require specific provider capability and permissions. VWAP and TWAP are examples of execution benchmarks or approaches used by some providers, not guaranteed prices. IBKR’s published order-type information illustrates provider-specific terms and limitations; it does not establish Nigerian availability or a Wigmore partnership.

Assess execution quality with defined measures

Pre-trade liquidity analysis, spread information and market-impact estimates should state their data, timing and limitations. Post-trade transaction-cost analysis needs an agreed benchmark and a complete view of explicit costs and execution outcomes. A favourable comparison over one period does not guarantee future performance. Ask qualified professionals to explain the evidence and how market conditions affect interpretation.

Settlement, custody and controls

Identify who executes, holds assets, settles obligations and reconciles records. Confirm authorised contacts, instruction validation, error handling and escalation. A completed trade report is not the same as completed settlement. Electronic access and an attractive commission schedule do not remove the need for operational and counterparty due diligence.

Issuer liquidity and investor execution

An investor’s execution mandate and an issuer’s market-making programme involve different roles. The NGX programme overview describes appointed market makers for specified securities. No appointment should be assumed from an ordinary brokerage relationship. Avoid proposals promising a predetermined share price, artificial volume or guaranteed liquidity.
