Trade, import, logistics, sourcing — whatever you're planning, the fastest way to a quote is a WhatsApp message. Our team replies during Lagos business hours.

Your message tells us which page you came from

A derivatives enquiry needs an identified contract, market, purpose and qualified provider. Futures, options, swaps and forwards can create different payment, margin and settlement obligations. Wigmore Trading accepts preparatory research and business-support requests. This page does not offer derivatives execution, brokerage, clearing, investment advice or a recommendation to use a particular hedge or trading strategy.

Start with the instrument and purpose

State whether the enquiry concerns risk management, provider selection or another authorised institutional requirement. Identify the underlying asset, intended market and organisational mandate. A broad request for “derivatives trading in Nigeria” does not establish that a specific equity, bond, FX, interest-rate or commodity contract is currently listed, available or appropriate for the client.

Review area Question for the qualified provider
Contract What are the exact terms, underlying asset and settlement method?
Access Which client eligibility, permissions and venue arrangements apply?
Risk What potential obligations, losses and liquidity needs arise?
Clearing and collateral Which parties, agreements and margin processes are involved?
Reporting What confirmations, valuations and regulatory records are required?

Exchange-traded and OTC arrangements

The NGX derivatives overview and FMDQ Exchange information provide market context. Obtain current contract specifications and provider terms rather than assuming every keyword names an active Nigerian product. OTC contracts also need counterparty, documentation and professional review specific to the actual arrangement.

Clearing, collateral and settlement

Ask who executes, clears, holds collateral and calculates obligations. Understand calls for additional collateral, eligible assets, timing and the consequences of failing to meet obligations. Clearing can change how risk is managed; it should not be described as removing every loss or counterparty risk. Have qualified advisers review the actual agreements and protections.

Hedging and valuation need specialist assessment

A hedge may leave timing, basis, size or other mismatches against the underlying exposure. Market-neutral, delta-hedging, spread, calendar, basis and cash-and-carry labels do not establish low risk or guaranteed returns. Request an explanation of assumptions, costs and adverse scenarios from the responsible professional. This guide does not prescribe a strategy or a trade.

Pricing and liquidity claims

Distinguish an indicative value, reference price and firm executable quote. Specify the contract, amount, time and terms behind any comparison. Ask how valuations are reviewed and how discrepancies are resolved. A two-way-pricing or market-making proposal requires the relevant permission and appointment; it does not guarantee that the desired size can be traded at a target spread.

Operating controls and reporting

Define authorised staff, limits, instruction channels, confirmations and reconciliation. Agree escalation for errors, system interruptions and disputed valuations. Keep confidential positions and account access within approved provider processes. A software interface or outsourced desk does not itself create derivatives authority or a clearing relationship.

Prepare a research brief

Send Wigmore a non-sensitive description of the instrument category, organisation role, market and support needed. We can clarify the available preparatory scope and specialist dependencies. Verify applicable functions through the SEC register and relevant market records. Do not send trading instructions, collateral, funds or confidential positions through an initial enquiry.

Discuss your preparatory support requirement

Send a non-confidential brief with your organisation’s role, market or commodity, research or procurement needs and dates. Wigmore can clarify available business-support scope and specialist dependencies. Regulated work must remain with appropriately authorised providers.
