Deal Origination and Corporate Matchmaking in Nigeria: Acquisition Search

Talk to us about this service

Trade, import, logistics, sourcing — whatever you're planning, the fastest way to a quote is a WhatsApp message. Our team replies during Lagos business hours.

Your message tells us which page you came from

Deal origination should start with a clear reason to transact. A buyer seeking manufacturing capacity needs a different search from a founder seeking a succession partner or a corporate group selling a subsidiary. A precise mandate makes introductions more useful and reduces unsuitable approaches.

Wigmore Trading welcomes corporate matchmaking, strategic acquisition search and deal-sourcing enquiries in Nigeria. We can discuss search, introductions and coordination requirements, with the actual engagement agreed in writing. No target list, exclusive access, buyer commitment or transaction outcome is guaranteed.

Define the buy-side or sell-side mandate

For buy-side enquiries, identify sectors, locations, operating scale, ownership sought and the capabilities you need. State whether you seek shares, a business unit, selected assets or a partnership. Include decision-making and funding readiness without sending sensitive financial documents in the first message.

For sell-side enquiries, establish who owns the business and who has authority to authorise an approach. Agree what can be disclosed, the preferred buyer profile and whether the process is exploratory or an approved sale mandate.

Search element What to specify
Strategic fit Markets, products, customers, capacity or intellectual property sought
Transaction scope Stake, assets, geography, size range and timing
Approach rules Excluded parties, confidentiality and approval of contacts
Screening Evidence needed before an opportunity advances

Understand proprietary and off-market sourcing

Off-market generally describes an opportunity not being openly marketed; it does not prove a seller is willing to transact. Proprietary sourcing should be explained in the engagement rather than used as a promise of unique access to every target.

Ask whether an intermediary has an actual mandate, permission to disclose information and any conflicts. An introduction to a director is not evidence that shareholders have approved a sale. Avoid paying for unsupported claims of exclusive access.

Use a documented screening process

Assess strategic fit, authority, operating information and the practical next steps. Record what is known, what comes from management and what remains unverified. An early screening note is not a due-diligence report or a valuation opinion.

Introduce technical, accounting, legal and sector specialists at the appropriate stage. A target can fit the strategy yet be unsuitable because of liabilities, licences, ownership problems or an unrealistic price expectation.

Protect information and relationships

Agree confidentiality, permitted disclosures, contact ownership and how competing mandates will be handled. Share a non-identifying summary before sensitive materials where appropriate. Use controlled access and an agreed process for deeper review.

Corporate matchmaking can also lead to distribution, joint ventures or supply agreements rather than an acquisition. Define the outcome being explored so parties do not mistake a preliminary conversation for an agreed deal.

Set deliverables and fees

Specify the search brief, reporting, shortlist criteria, introductions and exclusions. Confirm who provides regulated or specialist advice. Buy-side and sell-side M&A advisory labels do not establish that every legal, valuation or financing service is included.

Can Wigmore guarantee an off-market acquisition?

No. Actual opportunities depend on permission, suitability, diligence and agreement between the parties.

How do I begin?

Send a non-confidential mandate covering objective, sector, location, size range and timing. Our team can discuss the search scope and appropriate specialist support.

Prepare a non-confidential enquiry brief

Note whether you are a buyer, seller, shareholder or adviser; the sector and broad location; the decision you need to support; your intended timing; and the service scope required. Separate confirmed facts from assumptions and identify who is authorised to give instructions.

Do not send private identity, employee, banking or confidential transaction records through a general sales enquiry. Agree the engagement, confidentiality and access arrangements first. This checklist does not submit information.
