Digital underwriting should make an approved insurance process easier to control and operate. A rules engine, analytics dashboard and AI model perform different tasks. Buying a platform before defining the decision process can automate inconsistency rather than improve it.

Wigmore Trading welcomes software-procurement and implementation-planning enquiries in Nigeria. Share the business process and system requirements so a suitable scope can be assessed. Specific integrations, platform features, service levels and provider partnerships require confirmation.

Define what the system must do

Map application intake, document collection, checks, pricing support, referral, approval and policy handover. Distinguish an administrative workflow from the insurer’s actual acceptance decision. Identify who owns rules, exceptions and changes.

Capability Questions for evaluation
Rules engine Approved logic, versioning, testing and exception routes
Workflow platform Roles, queues, permissions and audit records
Analytics Data definitions, exposure, claims and decision reporting
AI tools Intended use, validation, explainability and human review

Confirm integration with evidence

List policy, claims, payment, document and identity systems. Ask vendors to show supported interfaces and clarify who builds and maintains them. A cloud-based product does not automatically integrate with another cloud service.

Use a demonstration based on non-sensitive sample data. Test incomplete applications, conflicting information, failed integrations and referrals rather than only an ideal straight-through journey.

Keep decision ownership clear

Software does not create delegated underwriting authority. The insurer’s approved governance and applicable requirements still determine who can accept risk and bind terms. Review relevant NAICOM guidance with the institution’s compliance specialists.

AI recommendations should be tested for fitness, data quality, errors and unfair outcomes. Define circumstances requiring human review and how a decision can be explained or challenged. Do not promise that automation removes every underwriting error.

Protect personal and sensitive data

Document purpose, lawful processing, access, retention, security and provider responsibilities. Review health, identity and financial information with appropriate privacy specialists. The NDPC resources provide a starting point for the applicable Nigerian data-protection framework.

Define access removal, logging, incident handling and data export. Do not build a production demonstration around real policyholder files shared through an ordinary sales conversation.

Compare total implementation cost

Include configuration, integration, migration, licences, hosting, support, training and future changes. Identify usage limits and charges for extra environments, APIs or users. Establish ownership of rules, reports and data.

Pilot a defined product or workflow with agreed acceptance criteria before a wider rollout. Review support coverage and operational readiness alongside technical performance.

Can an AI platform approve every proposal automatically?

Only an appropriately governed and lawful process can determine the permitted automation. Vendor claims are not a substitute for institution-level approval and validation.

What should I send Wigmore?

Provide institution type, workflow, systems, expected volumes and implementation objective. The team can discuss procurement and coordination needs without requiring policyholder data initially.

Prepare your enquiry brief

Note your organisation type, location, purpose, required deliverable, systems or products involved and target dates. Identify the responsible decision-maker and distinguish preparation, analysis, administration and regulated activities.

Start with non-confidential project details. Do not send medical, identity, borrower, policyholder or private financial records through an initial sales enquiry. Agree scope, permissions and controlled access first. This checklist does not submit information.
