A claims platform should make it easier for a customer to ask for help and for the responsible insurer to investigate fairly. It should not turn every uncertain case into an automatic rejection or promise payment before the authorised decision. For Nigerian microinsurance projects, service design matters as much as the claims dashboard.
Wigmore Trading can discuss claims operations and technology requirements within a defined project scope. Insurance decisions, benefits and payment obligations remain with the responsible parties under the policy and agreed arrangements.
Design a simple first-notice journey
Explain who may submit a claim, where to find the policy reference and what initial information is needed. Let the customer obtain a case reference and understand the next step. An assisted channel may be important for customers who cannot complete a digital form.
Collect necessary information progressively. A long form requesting every possible document can discourage valid enquiries and expose unnecessary sensitive data. The insurer should define evidence requirements appropriate to the product and circumstances.
Keep claim states clear
| State | What the customer needs to know |
|---|---|
| Received | The case reference and next review step |
| More information needed | What is missing, why it matters and how to supply it |
| Under review | The responsible team and available update channel |
| Decision issued | The outcome, explanation and complaint route |
| Payment pending or completed | The approved amount and relevant payment status |
Do not mark a case paid merely because a payout instruction was sent. Finance needs confirmation and a process for returned or failed payments.
Review evidence with controlled access
Limit access to authorised staff, keep a history of material changes and protect uploaded records. Establish how incorrect submissions are corrected and how an applicant can provide an explanation. Initial sales enquiries should never include real claimants’ health records or identity documents.
Fraud indicators can prioritise investigation, but an anomaly is not proof. Define human review, explainable reasons and escalation. Claims analytics should improve control and service without replacing accountable decisions with unexplained scores.
Connect payouts and reconciliation
Link the approved claim, beneficiary verification process, payout instruction and confirmed result. Separate the roles that decide the claim, edit payment details and authorise release. Record approved adjustments without deleting the original decision history.
For example, if an account detail is corrected after a payment fails, preserve both attempts and independently verify the change. This makes the final result reviewable and reduces confusion about whether a customer received the benefit twice or not at all.
Measure the customer journey
Monitor time at each stage, requests for further information, repeat contacts, unresolved complaints and returned payments. A short average processing time can hide a group of long-running cases. Report ageing and causes, not only closed-case totals.
Use the policy and applicable regulatory requirements to agree service commitments. Avoid advertising a universal payout deadline without the insurer’s confirmed terms. Review current NAICOM guidance with the responsible compliance team.
Can software guarantee a claim will be paid?
No. Eligibility and benefit depend on the policy and an authorised decision. Software can organise evidence and communication but cannot create cover that was not agreed.
What should an implementation brief contain?
Provide a redacted workflow, claim types, authorised roles, reporting needs and payout providers. Wigmore can discuss the requirements and confirm specialist involvement, integrations and support before proposing a delivery scope.
Prepare your project enquiry
Before contacting us, note your operating country and locations, organisation type, existing systems, priority problems, expected scale and desired pilot date. List the capabilities you need and the evidence you want to see in a demonstration. Do not send passwords, API secrets, identity documents or customer financial and health records through an initial enquiry.
This checklist is for your own preparation; it does not submit or store information.
